\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tJakarta (ANTARA) – Bank Indonesia (BI) has expanded the use of its national QR code payment system, the Indonesian Standard Quick Response Code (QRIS), for cross\u2011border transactions with China starting Thursday. <\/p>\n
The initiative allows Indonesians and Chinese citizens to make inbound and outbound payments by scanning QR codes. <\/p>\n
For now, the system supports UnionPay QR, Alipay QR, and unified QR codes displaying both logos. Other platforms, including WeChat Pay, remain under development and technical adjustment. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf we go to China or Chinese citizens come to Indonesia, they can use their mobile phone to pay,\u201d BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said at the launch in Jakarta. <\/p>\n
Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong welcomed the move, praising Indonesia\u2019s progress in financial and digital innovation. <\/p>\n
He said the banking sector must adapt to global changes, including artificial intelligence and digitalization, through investment in technology and human resources. <\/p>\n
Chairman of the Indonesian Payment Systems Association (ASPI) Santoso Liem described the collaboration as a major opportunity, noting the strong mobility of tourists between the two countries and the potential to strengthen business ties through cross\u2011border payments. <\/p>\n
Integration with China\u2019s national QR code standard is being rolled out in stages, requiring coordination among service providers to ensure smooth connectivity. <\/p>\n
Future expansion is expected to include other platforms such as WeChat Pay, though implementation remains in the exploratory phase.<\/p>\n
