Max Media of Coastal Virginia is making a two-pronged programming move designed to strengthen both its leadership bench and on-air presence at soft AC \u201c92.9 The Wave\u201d WTWV and country \u201c97.3 The Eagle\u201d WGH-FM in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Newport News market.<\/p>\n
Veteran broadcaster Barry McKay has been promoted to Program Director\/Brand Manager and afternoon host for \u201c92.9 The Wave,\u201d transitioning from his midday role at \u201c97.3 The Eagle.\u201d In his expanded position, McKay will oversee the continued development of the station\u2019s \u201cYacht Rock\u201d format while anchoring afternoons with the personality that has made him a familiar voice in the market.<\/p>\n
A longtime presence in Coastal Virginia radio, McKay brings decades of experience and a strong connection with listeners to the role. Known for his distinctive voice and upbeat delivery, he now steps into a leadership position guiding one of the company\u2019s newer brands.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Jerry Hoyt has been promoted to Assistant Program Director at \u201c97.3 The Eagle\u201d and will assume the station\u2019s midday slot. Hoyt\u2019s career spans multiple markets and roles, beginning as a part-time air talent at \u201cZ104\u201d WNVZ in Norfolk and including stops in Washington, D.C., with CBS Radio, as well as Fredericksburg before returning to Coastal Virginia.<\/p>\n
Hoyt rejoined Max Media in 2015 and has since become a versatile contributor across departments, including production, engineering, IT, and on-air.<\/p>\n
