Former Greater Accra Regional Minister and Tema East MP, Titus Glover, has raised concerns about growing political interference in the work of the Bank of Ghana.<\/p>\n
Speaking on JoyNews\u2019 AM Show, Glover said attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to politicise the central bank could have serious consequences for the country. He warned that such actions could damage the credibility of an important state institution.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe way the NDC want to politicise the Bank of Ghana, it will hit us in the face,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Glover criticised political actors for speaking publicly about the Bank\u2019s financial issues before the institution itself addresses them. According to him, this goes against proper governance and communication processes.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have party members holding press conferences when the Bank itself has not even spoken,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that if the situation is not addressed quickly, it could lead to the politicisation of other state institutions. \u201cIf we don\u2019t stop this now, they will politicise everything. It\u2019s a recipe for disaster,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n
Glover also questioned why political figures are leading discussions about the Bank\u2019s financial position instead of allowing the Bank of Ghana to communicate officially.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis could have been done by the Bank of Ghana themselves,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
His comments come at a time when the Bank\u2019s financial situation is under pressure. The 2025 Annual Report shows that its deficit has increased from GH\u00a29.48 billion in 2024. This is the fourth year in a row that the Bank has recorded losses, after deficits of GH\u00a260.9 billion in 2022 and GH\u00a210.5 billion in 2023.<\/p>\n
