A person has been take to hospital in a serious condition after a large ambulance call-out in Auckland.<\/p>\n
Four ambulances and a rapid response unit were deployed to Swanson Road in R\u0101nui just before midday.<\/p>\n
Crews treated two patients – one was taken to Auckland Hospital in the serious condition, and the other to North Shore Hospital in a moderate condition.<\/p>\n
Around 1.30pm, a number of sirens could be heard again in the area – lasting more than five minutes.<\/p>\n
Police said on arrival officers located one person with non-life-threatening stab wounds and a 23-year-old woman was taken into custody over the incident.<\/p>\n
Detective Inspector Callum McNeill said a detective and frontline staff were present with that victim at the centre when a separate incident unfolded outside.<\/p>\n
“Our officers have become aware of a commotion outside, where a person had been running away after being stabbed in the head,” McNeill said.<\/p>\n
“Officers have moved outside to ascertain what was taking place, when they have seen the offender that had been chasing the victim.”<\/p>\n
Police said the offender was allegedly carrying a knife when he lunged at both officers, knocking one officer over and striking his body armour at the same time.<\/p>\n
The offender then ran off and stabbed another member of the public in the shoulder, who was waiting for a bus at the time.<\/p>\n
“The offender, a 29-year-old man, was swiftly taken into custody by other police colleagues nearby as they were already on scene due to the earlier incident,” McNeill said.<\/p>\n
McNeill added that a detective has suffered grazing injuries, and the other officer was not injured.<\/p>\n
“The victims from the second event are in hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This was an extremely concerning event, and I can reassure the wider community that our enquiries suggest that we are dealing with two separate and isolated incidents.”<\/p>\n
‘He got hurt’<\/p>\n
Shaneel Ranjay, from The Fading Hub barber, said he went outside to see an injured man and another man running off being chased by police.<\/p>\n
“He got hurt,” he told RNZ.<\/p>\n
Ranjay said he saw the man with a knife in his hand.<\/p>\n
He said he later learnt there had been an earlier stabbing at the rear of the neighbouring medical centre, Local Doctors R\u0101nui.<\/p>\n
Ranjay said he was told the staff at the doctors’ clinic were told to evacuate because of that stabbing out the back.<\/p>\n
He said the clinic remained closed.<\/p>\n
A nearby primary school, R\u0101nui Primary, posted on its Facebook page at 2.20pm about the incident.<\/p>\n
“There was an incident at R\u0101nui Medical Centre today,” the post said.<\/p>\n
“It is SAFE now but the road has been blocked and there will be traffic.”<\/p>\n
It said staff from R\u0101nui Action Project would be at the corner of the school to guide students.<\/p>\n
“If you would like to pick your children up please ring office and arrange for them to stay in the office until you come.”<\/p>\n
