Instagram bot purge 2026 deletes millions of fake accounts<\/p>\n

The massive drop in the number of followers can be attributed to Instagram’s efforts to clean its entire platform of spammy and inactive accounts. In doing so, its system has been deleting bots, inactive, and non-organic accounts, such as those earned from external sources.<\/p>\n

Although the company itself has not made a formal statement regarding the matter, the process of purging continues.<\/p>\n

Instagram follower drop sparks confusion over possible glitch or Meta ban wave<\/p>\n

As the purge continued, some users started experiencing fluctuations in their follower count. This has prompted some to suggest that there may be an error in the system or even something along the lines of what has been termed a “Meta ban wave,” which implies that legitimate accounts were mistakenly banned and have been reinstated.Either way, from the trend, it can be deduced that many fake accounts will soon cease to exist.<\/p>\n

K-pop idols lose millions as Instagram purge hits global fanbases<\/p>\n

Among the most affected are major K-pop artists, whose massive followings include a significant number of inactive or automated accounts. While unconfirmed, many users on X (formerly Twitter), have been sharing screenshots and news about the same.<\/p>\n

There are reports that state BLACKPINK’s official account lost 10 million followers after Instagram removed bots. Members too saw some of the largest drops during the purge.<\/p>\n

Lisa allegedly is said to have lost 1.1 million followers while Ros\u00e9 and Jennie lost around 700,000 each, and Jisoo losing approximately 600,000.\"X<\/p>\n

Artists from other groups were also impacted, including Chanyeol and Sehun from EXO, as well as G-Dragon from BIGBANG.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, BTS reportedly saw drop of around 600,000 followers, with individual members losing between 100,000 and 150,000 each.<\/p>\n

Jungkook, the maknae of the groups, seems to be one of the few, not affected by the purge as his followers did not see a drop.It is important to note that these figures are being circulated based on posts published on X, and there is no independent verification of how the follower counts have dropped or remained stable.<\/p>\n

The sudden change in numbers quickly became a trending topic among fans on X, especially within K-pop communities where social media metrics are closely followed.<\/p>\n
