Family friend Brendon \u201cMoe\u201d Murray said the move back south was welcome news for Broome\u2019s loved ones. <\/p>\n
\u201cSome of them went up and saw them last week in Christchurch and paid a visit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re quite excited to get him back to Dunedin and be closer to them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Murray said Broome\u2019s parents were coping as best they could. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re going as good as they can be in a situation that they\u2019re in,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
While Broome remains unconscious, Murray said doctors had noted some progress. <\/p>\n
The rugby community has rallied around Broome, a talented player, during his recovery.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s still unconscious, but he\u2019s responding to some commands from the doctors.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe opens his eyes every once in a while and goes back to sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n
The wider community has rallied around the young player, who earlier this year captained the Southland under-19s and joined the Rugby Southland academy.<\/p>\n

Otago University Rugby took to social media to express support for Broome.<\/p>\n
\u201cJayden is a proud member of our community and an even prouder Southlander,\u201d a post read.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe pray for him and his family and trust his fight and heart get him through.\u201d<\/p>\n
A University of Otago spokesperson said staff were supporting the student, his wh\u0101nau and students to ensure they had the care and assistance they needed.<\/p>\n
