Dolphins vs Bulldogs teams, scores, videos, updates

A Jamayne Isaako hat-trick inspired the Dolphins to a 44-12 battering of the Bulldogs in Brisbane on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (3-6) have now lost their past four games and just conceded 40 unanswered points against the Phins.

Despite losing five-eighth Matt Burton (illness) on game day, Canterbury looked to have turned a corner when they bounced out to a 12-4 lead before 16,143 at Suncorp Stadium.

However, a Jacob Preston brain explosion allowed the Dolphins to get back into the game and the NRL’s best attacking team of 2025 turned on the afterburners to blitz the Bulldogs in a 30-0 second-half shellacking.

Cameron Ciraldo’s Bulldogs have lost six of their last seven games, and 11 of 15 dating back to last year’s finals flop, to plummet into the NRL’s abyss.

DOG SHOT COSTS PRESTON

Blues hopeful Preston could be in hot water after being sin-binned for a late shot on Dolphins halfback Isaiya Katoa.

With the Bulldogs leading 12-8 in the 37th minute, Preston whacked an unsuspecting Katoa in the back from behind in what proved to be a costly incident.

The Dolphins ran in two tries while Preston sat in the bin to open up a 20-12 lead and the Bulldogs never recovered.

It was an unnecessary tackle, one the NRL’s match review committee doesn’t take kindly to.

Preston was playing well before the shot and is in contention for a NSW Origin debut – if he is available for selection.

LACHIE’S LOSSES MOUNTING

Canterbury’s attacking woes continued in another abysmal performance with the ball.

The Dolphins haven’t scored more than 20 points during this losing streak and at the heart of their problems is golden child Lachie Galvin.

In the absence of Burton, Galvin should have stood up but instead had a night to forget despite a glut of possession early in the game.

After Canterbury got out to an 8-0 lead, Galvin threw a forward pass with the Dogs on the attack against the floundering Dolphins.

He then sent a pass to no-one which was scooped up by the Dolphins, who raced 90m and scored on the next play through Selwyn Cobbo.

Galvin was fended away by a runaway Connelly Lemuelu early in the first half and had little involvement as the Bulldogs barely touched the ball.

The Bulldogs failed to turn their early possession into points and it came back to bite.

To make matters worse, Galvin seemed to have copped an earful from skipper Stephen Crichton when Kodi Nikorima ran past the Dogs’ pivot to score late in the second half.

JAMAYNE’S JOY

After a slow start to the season, the Dolphins have registered back-to-back wins and found some form before next week’s Magic Round showdown with Wayne Bennett’s Rabbitohs.

The Dolphins had another lacklustre first half, but when it clicks they are one of the NRL’s most destructive teams.

Katoa and returning five-eighth Kodi Nikorima had some nice touches, but it was Isaako that stole the show with three tries in the space of 24 minutes.

The Kiwi winger has played all 81 games in the NRL expansion club’s history and been an ultra-consistent performer.

He bagged his fourth career hat-trick within the opening 45 minutes and slotted – goals for a personal haul of 24 points. His stunning pass for Jack Bostock to score was also a piece of magic.

Isaako has been squeezed out of Redcliffe by salary cap pressures and the Dolphins’ loss will be Melbourne’s gain.

TOM’S MAJOR PROBLEM

The Dolphins’ Queensland contenders had a mixed bag in their penultimate game before Billy Slater picks his first Maroons team.

Hunting his first Origin jersey since 2023, prop Tom Flegler had a first half to forget, making an error and giving away two penalties.

Bulldogs lock Jaeman Salmon burst through Queensland hopefuls Max Plath and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki for the opening try, but they both recovered and had solid games.

Dolphins co-captain Tom Gilbert (110m) made an impact from the bench in his new interchange role and is warming into the season.
