Our editors have been traveling the globe\u2014from High Point, North Carolina<\/a>, to Milan<\/a>\u2014in search of the latest and greatest furniture, textiles, lighting, and more. Here, we\u2019re breaking down the top nine interior design trends our style and market team has spotted and loved at recent markets.<\/p>\n

From tiny home tweaks (think: switching out lampshades or hardware) to bigger creative decisions like changing color schemes or furniture styles, there\u2019s a summer interior design trend that\u2019ll fit your aesthetic and home project. Read on for what we\u2019re most excited about in the design world right now.<\/p>\n

Traditional Styles <\/p>\n

VERANDA\u2019s Style & Market Director Rachael Rummel says she\u2019s seen a noticeable return to traditional decorating. She says she spotted \u201cplaid and checked fabrics, rolled arms in furniture, bun feet on casegoods, and lots of tufting on seating\u201d at High Point Market.<\/p>\n

She adds, \u201cWarmer color palettes and layers were seen in the styling of the showrooms, which added to the traditional aesthetic. All the showroom directors and creative directors were talking about how designers are asking for traditional decor, and customers are leaning into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s time to do away with unflattering, hospital-like LED lights once and for all. Rummel says she saw \u201cmany lighting designs with amber-colored glass or smoky glass this market.\u201d She adds, \u201cI also saw many lights with fabric and linen shades, which also makes a light feel much more warm and traditional.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rummel says, \u201cBun feet were strong in casegoods in the 1980s, and these are having a definite moment again\u2014proof that everything comes back around!\u201d She notes these low, rounded feet were specifically shown on chests, consoles, and seating at High Point.<\/p>\n

Green as a Neutral<\/p>\n

Rummel says, \u201cUsually, blue is the dominant color at market (which is not unexpected, as blue is typically the strongest color for textile sales in the U.S. market). However, green<\/a> has been catching up with blue in recent months, and the showrooms were really leaning into all shades of green this market.\u201d<\/p>\n

She says she noticed shades ranging from earthy olive to zingy green on everything from seating and coffee tables to fabric and wallcoverings. \u201cMany showrooms were referencing green acting as a neutral in a decorating scheme, which we have always known,\u201d Rummel adds. \u201cGreen is Mother Nature\u2019s neutral!\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Page<\/a>Bronze Over Brass<\/p>\n

Rummel says, \u201cMany showrooms introduced bronze finishes, especially in lighting. Reportedly, designers have been asking for more bronze finishes, as the long reign of brass and antique brass is on the slight decline.\u201d She adds, \u201cVisual Comfort & Co.<\/a> and Wildwood<\/a> both introduced bronze finishes in sconces and chandeliers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Exit of Boucl\u00e9<\/p>\n

Rummel says that boucl\u00e9 fabric is on the decline. She says, \u201cBoucl\u00e9 was definitely not as visible at market this spring. I think that\u2019s partly due to the fact that everyone was so leaning into more traditional vignettes and therefore, more traditional textiles. Linens, velvets, jacquards, and knubby woven fabrics were more at the forefront this market in terms of upholstery.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>Textured Casegoods<\/p>\n

Rummel says that burl wood<\/a> was \u201cstronger than ever\u201d at market. She says, \u201cFrom cocktail and coffee tables to desks to dressers, burl wood was everywhere and in various tones\u2014light, dark, and in-between.\u201d<\/p>\n

But burl wasn\u2019t the only texture our style and market team spotted on casegoods. Rummel says, \u201cThere was also a fair amount of parchment or parchment-inspired furniture in dining tables and consoles, and many casegoods\u2014especially those with fronts, like bedside tables, consoles, and chests of drawers\u2014utilized reeding as a decorative element.\u201d<\/p>\n

Our style and market team saw a ton of umbrella shades on table lamps at High Point and Salone. Rummel says, \u201cI wouldn\u2019t say it was a full-on takeover yet, but once you start to see a few, there will be more next market!\u201d<\/p>\n

VERANDA\u2019s Style & Market Editor Catherine Smith adds, \u201cAfter I saw the first oversize umbrella shade, it was the only thing I seemed to notice at Salone. Milk glass, fabric, rattan, brass\u2014the options were endless. The idea seems modern, but somehow they felt quite traditional too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turkish corners\u2014a decorative upholstery technique<\/a> that features pleated, tucked, or gathered corners on cushions to create a structured, beautifully boxy shape\u2014might be having a moment again, and our style and market team is here for it.<\/p>\n

Rummel says, \u201cCharlotte Lucas introduced a sectional for Taylor King with Turkish corners, and it was so chic. Bring back the Turkish corners on seat cushions!\u201d<\/p>\n
