Commenting on his brief kiss with Winslet as Juliet, he told the audience: \u201cI realised I gave Kate Winslet her first screen kiss.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jackson \u2013 who is now 64 \u2013 quipped that \u201cmust have set the bar pretty high\u201d for Winslet, who has since smooched the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Idris Elba and Evan Peters.<\/p>\n
Jackson \u2013 who received an honorary Palme d\u2019Or for his life\u2019s work at the Cannes Film Festival \u2013 also spoke of his pride at having played a major part in launching Winslet\u2019s stellar movie career, which has included a Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Reader.<\/p>\n

According to the Metro, he added: \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun when you make movies and it\u2019s even more fun when you get to start the career of somebody else in the film industry. I\u2019m very proud [of that].\u201d<\/p>\n
Jackson also revealed that Andy Serkis \u2013 who he helped turn into the world\u2019s foremost CGI actor after casting him as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings series \u2013 has taken on directing duties for the upcoming Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum, which sees Elijah Wood and Sir Ian McKellen reprise their roles as Frodo and Gandalf, respectively. Serkis returns as Gollum.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThe film is very much an internal story about Gollum\u2019s psychology and his addiction and it\u2019s a very personal story to Gollum, the character. So I thought Andy knows this guy better than anybody.<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually, I didn\u2019t think much about the idea of me [directing] at all.
