{"id":428731,"date":"2026-05-15T09:26:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T09:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/428731\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T09:26:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T09:26:10","slug":"sunlive-wairoa-bridge-cycleway-closed-indefinitely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/428731\/","title":{"rendered":"SunLive &#8211; Wairoa Bridge cycleway closed indefinitely"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Wairoa Bridge cycleway will remain closed while authorities assess repair options following damage to the embankment supporting the path.<\/p>\n<p>The cycleway, on the southern side of State Highway 2\u2019s Wairoa Bridge, was closed on March 27 after prolonged heavy rainfall in January and February left soil waterlogged and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunlive.co.nz\/news\/379681-bop-hit-by-slips--flooding-and-heavy-rain.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sunlive.co.nz\/news\/379681-bop-hit-by-slips--flooding-and-heavy-rain.html\">triggered slips across Tauranga<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a media statement, Tauranga City Council said while the cycleway is shut, cyclists can continue to cross the bridge using the roadway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoad users are being urged to take extra care, particularly as winter conditions approach.
