The rematch could be on.<\/p>\n
Trainer Jason Grimson has opened the door for brilliant young mare Captains Mistress to clash for the second time with the great Leap To Fame in the $1 million Brisbane Inter Dominion final.<\/p>\n
Speaking on SEN\u2019s Giddy Up with Gareth show, trainer Jason Grimson dropped a couple of exciting revelations about Captains Mistress.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve just trialled her from a standing-start and she handled it well, so she might go to the (Group 2) Redcliffe (Gold) Cup, as long as she doesn\u2019t get a 30m handicap or something like that. The timing works,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The $106,070 Redcliffe Gold Cup is on June 20, two weeks ahead of the $350,000 Group 1 Rising Sun, which Captains Mistress is a $1.40 pre-post favourite to win, with Kiwi stars Marketplace and Jumal at $4 and $4.50.<\/p>\n
The Rising Sun winner On July 4 gets a golden ticket into the $1 million Inter Dominion final on July 18.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, as long as you run in the four-year-old race the week after (July 11), then you get into the Inter Dominion,\u201d Grimson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wouldn\u2019t hesitate starting her (in the Inter Dominion final) if she\u2019s going the way she is now.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe (longer) distance won\u2019t worry her because she conserves her energy so much and relaxes so well. She\u2019s the real deal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Grimson expects stable driver Cam Hart to drive Captains Mistress when she next clashes with champion stablemate Swayzee.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Cam would jump off (Swayzee). She\u2019s honestly a freak this mare.\u201d<\/p>\n
Captains Mistress ran a luckless fifth to Leap To Fame in the Miracle Mile on March 14 at their only clash.<\/p>\n
Swayzee is back home after a winless four-race NZ raid.<\/p>\n
Grimson said there may have been excuses for his latest well beaten third to younger Kiwi stars Got The Chocolates and The Lazarus Effect at Alexandra Park last Friday week.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe didn\u2019t pull-up well. He was blowing way harder than normal and had a slow recovery. He wasn\u2019t 100 per cent after the race,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe seems brighter now he\u2019s back home.
