\u201cPolice can confirm we have received a report in relation to an allegation of fraud at a school in Pukekohe. Enquiries are in the very early stages.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deidre Alderson, Ministry of Education director of education T\u0101maki Makaurau, confirmed police were investigating \u201cmatters relating to the school\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe school is open and operating as usual, and we are providing support as needed. We are unable to comment further at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a message to the community yesterday, Bush said the school was aware of \u201cfactually inaccurate\u201d information circulating. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe would love to provide those facts, but because a police investigation has commenced, we are unable to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate that this may be frustrating for members of our community who understandably want clarity. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to provide more information now, but I assure you we will when the investigation is complete.\u201d<\/p>\n

His message said the board remained focused on supporting the school to ensure the school community continued to experience \u201cpositive learning opportunities\u201c. <\/p>\n

When questioned about the board departures, Pukekohe North School presiding board member Ioane Iaone said processes were underway after the resignations and the remaining members were \u201cdisappointed\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am working with the board and the Ministry of Education to ensure the right systems and oversight are in place,\u201d Iaone said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe priority is stability while the school provides a safe environment and a good education for all students.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the school was running as usual, with experienced leadership in place and no disruption to student learning.<\/p>\n

Asked about the resignations, Alderson said the agency was aware of the departures and working closely with the school and its limited statutory manager on next steps.<\/a><\/p>\n

Since two elected members remained, including the presiding member, Alderson said the board could continue to govern the school. <\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of this, we are not appointing a commissioner; however, we will continue to monitor the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe limited statutory manager will work with the remaining members to set a timeline and process for board elections. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to support the school as needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said teachers and students would not be disrupted. <\/p>\n

\"TheThe Pukekohe North School trip to Fiji had to be taken in a private capacity after the board could not come to an agreement on whether they could go.<\/p>\n

In February, the Herald reported that board members had allegedly left meetings in tears, and Bush was called in to take charge <\/a>, after infighting around the Fiji trip. <\/p>\n

One student was hospitalised, and others fell ill during the five-day excursion for a kapa haka troupe linked to Pukekohe North School in December.<\/p>\n

The trip was fully funded by student fundraising efforts and parental contributions. <\/p>\n

For Pukekohe North students, it had to be undertaken in a private capacity after the board could not reach a decision.<\/p>\n

A source close to Pukekohe North School, who wished to remain anonymous, said the board was divided over whether the trip should go ahead because of missing information on essential forms, including documents regarding health and safety.<\/p>\n
