He was Labour\u2019s deputy leader under Dame Jacinda Ardern between 2017 and 2023. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mplxTcLUMibHPxLgQP\" style=\"display:none\">While in the Beehive, Davis held several portfolios including Associate Education Minister, with a focus on M\u0101ori education. He was also in charge of M\u0101ori Crown Relations: Te Arawhiti and Corrections among others. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mplxTcLUMibHPxLgQP\" style=\"display:none\">Stanford\u2019s statement said the group would focus on raising achievement for M\u0101ori learners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mplxTcLUMibHPxLgQP\" style=\"display:none\">It will support the M\u0101ori Education Action Plan, which was announced in December 2024. That includes a range of different actions the Government is undertaking to support M\u0101ori students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mplxTcLUMibHPxLgQP\" style=\"display:none\">Other members of the group are public policy practitioner Will Workman (the chair), former chair of the M\u0101tauranga Iwi Leaders Group, Olivia Hall, and educators Dame Georgina Kingi, Billie-Jean Potaka-Ayton, and Turi Ngatai. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mplxTcLUMibHPxLgQP\" style=\"display:none\">The MAG will report directly to Stanford over two years. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Davis departed Parliament in 2024 following the change of Government.
