\u201cIt was a bizarre experience,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had problems with the airport parking … two months ago, [when] the machine didn\u2019t show me any details even after putting my rego.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nair, who is a member of the \u014ctara-Papatoetoe Local Board, said he appreciated the assistance from airport staff and was able to leave the carpark without further issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt just got me wondering how many others [have] had to deal with it if the machine is not showing the correct fee when [they] are paying,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
An Auckland Airport spokesperson acknowledged that receiving an incorrect parking charge would be frustrating, apologising to Nair for the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are pleased the customer was able to contact our customer service team at the parking machine, allowing them to promptly resolve the issue before the transaction took place,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Auckland Airport believed the issue had occurred because Nair\u2019s vehicle had not been properly checked out of the car park after a short visit in March.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the customer returned for a second visit this week, the system treated the customer\u2019s two visits as one single stay, incorrectly calculating the days between them,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said the airport had \u201crobust processes\u201d in place to ensure customers were charged correctly.<\/p>\n
The airport was reviewing why the earlier exit had not been properly recorded, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m glad the problem was resolved quickly and that I didn\u2019t have to fork out $4000,\u201d Nair said.<\/p>\n
