ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig\u2019s Disease, is the most common type of Motor Neurone Disease<\/a>, affecting the brain and spinal cord and impacting movement, speech, and independence.<\/p>\n Slatten, 68, issued a statement Tuesday about her decision to share the diagnosis. \u201cThere was a rumor that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS,\u201d she wrote in an Instagram post. \u201cAt first, we tried to keep it private because it\u2019s been very emotional and overwhelming for us. We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly.<\/p>\n \u201cBut after trying for some time, we feel like it\u2019s time to reach out. Thank you so much for all the love and support. Right now, we are open to any kind of help \u2014 treatments, clinical trials, lifestyle changes, or anything that could help treat this disease or slow down its progression.\u201d <\/p>\n The reality star and her husband Sumit Singh, 38, also told People<\/a> of the diagnosis: \u201cWe’re doing what we can.\u201d<\/p>\n Slatten told the publication she experienced her first ALS symptom<\/a> in December 2024 when she choked \u201cbadly\u201d as she was drinking water. Soon after, she had trouble swallowing and thought she had \u201csome kind of infection,\u201d so she was on a medication that briefly treated her pain. <\/p>\n However, she and her husband later noticed she had difficulties speaking, including avoiding conversations and often refusing to talk at all. <\/p>\n \u201cThat’s when we knew something was wrong,\u201d Slatten said. <\/p>\n In December 2025, Slatten\u2019s husband noticed that her speech was much slower during a 90 Day Fianc\u00e9 holiday party in New York City. At the time, many of her fans on social media were also concerned about her health, with one suggesting that she could have ALS. <\/p>\n \u201cAnd then I find out that these symptoms she was having \u2014 this is what it looks like,\u201d Singh said. <\/p>\n Early symptoms of the disease<\/a>, according to the U.S. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, include: muscle twitches in the arm, leg, shoulder or tongue; cramps; tight or stiff muscles; muscle weakness; slurred or nasal speech; and difficulty chewing and swallowing.<\/p>\n The reality star \u2014 whose dad died from ALS a decade ago <\/a>\u2014 and her husband met with several neurologists in India, where she learned her diagnosis. However, Singh told People that the progression of his wife\u2019s disease is \u201cslow\u201d and they\u2019re exploring possible treatments. <\/p>\n Slatten entered the reality TV world in 2019, appearing on the first season of 90 Day Fianc\u00e9: The Other Way, which documented her move to India to be with Singh. The couple, who got married in 2021, is set to appear in the upcoming season of the series\u2019 spin-off, 90 Day: The Last Resort. <\/p>\n Slatten is the latest TV star to share an ALS diagnosis.
