Weiss has brought on the last member of his senior leadership team. Neil Batiancila, currently the head of fundraising at the <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/philadelphia-zoo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Zoo<\/a>, will join the museum as chief advancement officer, the museum announced Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The position is a key one at any point, but it is especially critical at a time when the museum is facing deficits and <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-logo-reinventing-20260308.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-logo-reinventing-20260308.html\">rebuilding after a period of internal chaos<\/a>. Batiancila will steward the museum\u2019s contributed funding \u2014 individual, corporate, foundation, and government support \u2014 as well as the membership program and government relations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cThere is quite a bit to dig into,\u201d said Batiancila, 49, who came to Philadelphia from his native Connecticut to attend Penn. \u201cAt the same time, let\u2019s think about the opportunities ahead. We have a museum that is 150 years old and, like many places, Philadelphia\u2019s cultural anchors require investment to keep up to date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The Philadelphia Zoo this month <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.philadelphiazoo.org\/news\/philadelphia-zoo-announces-public-launch-of-remember-the-future-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.philadelphiazoo.org\/news\/philadelphia-zoo-announces-public-launch-of-remember-the-future-campaign\/\">announced<\/a> an $85 million campaign, with $65 million already raised during the quiet phase. The money will go toward capital projects, programs, and endowment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The scale of the museum\u2019s needs points to a much larger campaign. In addition to facing an operating deficit, Philadelphia\u2019s comprehensive art museum must prioritize a substantial amount of deferred maintenance, paused expansion plans, and other projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Batiancila said there should always be an ambitious fundraising campaign on the horizon for a museum of this stature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cWe\u2019re one of the top art museums in the world, and we should continue to showcase how that impacts our community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \"><a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-director-daniel-weiss-20260121.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-director-daniel-weiss-20260121.html\">Weiss<\/a> took over as director and CEO in December after the <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-sasha-suda-dismissal-legal-investigation-20251110.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-art-museum-sasha-suda-dismissal-legal-investigation-20251110.html\">dismissal<\/a> of former leader Sasha Suda. He has rolled back some of the decisions made during her tenure, such as an unpopular and brief <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-name-change-rebrand-20260204.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-of-art-name-change-rebrand-20260204.html\">renaming of the museum<\/a> as the \u201cPhiladelphia Art Museum,\u201d or PhAM. He has now hired new leaders in <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-art-new-cfo-20260306.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/arts\/philadelphia-museum-art-new-cfo-20260306.html\">finance<\/a> and human resources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">No other major personnel changes are expected, said veteran museum spokesperson Laura Coogan, who takes the title of interim vice president of communications and marketing as of June 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Batiancila, who starts the job June 8, was chief development officer at the zoo for 7\u00bd years. Previously, also for 7\u00bd years, he was at the Children\u2019s Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation, where, as executive director of campaign operations, he coled a $1 billion comprehensive campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Batiancila said it is \u201cdifficult to think about Philadelphia without thinking about the PMA. It has a history and nostalgia associated with it.
