The Brien Holden Vision Institute\u00a0(BHVI)\u00a0has introduced\u00a0outdoor\u00a0time as a new risk factor in its\u00a0myopia calculator, enabling clinicians to better visualise the protective effect of outdoor exposure on myopia development alongside other key risk factors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Drawing\u00a0on peer-reviewed research and developed through collaboration with the International Myopia Institute, BHVI\u2019s\u00a0myopia calculator\u00a0is one of the most widely used clinical tools globally for assessing a child\u2019s risk of developing myopia, the Australian\u00a0not-for-profit organisation\u00a0said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The calculator provides evidence-based predictions across treatment,\u00a0prevention\u00a0and management options, to help eyecare practitioners\u00a0determine\u00a0the best course\u00a0of action for at-risk or myopic children and enable informed discussion with parents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Developed in partnership with the Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Centre (China), Ulster University (UK) and Linnaeus University (Sweden), the calculator\u00a0is available free of charge\u00a0at\u00a0bhvi.org.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
