iOS 26.5 launched earlier this month with a variety of brand new features<\/a> for users. Here are the new iOS 26.5 features that were added to three popular iPhone apps.<\/p>\n #1: Messages<\/p>\n Apple\u2019s Messages app got an important upgrade in iOS 26.5 for RCS messaging.<\/p>\n RCS is the best messaging option for green bubble friends, providing many iMessage-like features that SMS doesn\u2019t support.<\/p>\n And in iOS 26.5, Apple has added end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging<\/a> in beta. Per Apple\u2019s fine print:<\/p>\n End-to-end encryption is in beta and is not available for all devices or carriers. Conversations labeled as encrypted are encrypted end-to-end, so messages can\u2019t be read while they\u2019re sent between devices.<\/p>\n For more details on end-to-end encryption, and to see which carriers support the feature, see this compatibility article here<\/a>.<\/p>\n #2: Apple Maps<\/p>\n Apple Maps got a useful addition to the search screen in iOS 26.5.<\/p>\n \u2018Suggested Places\u2019<\/a> is a new feature that recommends two places every time you tap into the search field.<\/p>\n These suggestions are based on a few different factors:<\/p>\n Locations trending nearby<\/p>\n Previous searches you\u2019ve performed<\/p>\n \u201cAnd more\u201d per Apple<\/p>\n I\u2019ve really enjoyed<\/a> the feature so far, as it feels like a perfect addition to the search screen. It doesn\u2019t get in the way or clutter up other parts of the app, and is a great discovery aid.<\/p>\n Eventually, Apple says<\/a> one of these \u2018Suggested Places\u2019 slots could feature promoted locations (e.g., ads). But I still feel optimistic the feature will be a net positive.<\/p>\n #3: App Store<\/p>\n The App Store just added a new option for in-app subscriptions.<\/p>\n Apple gives developers flexibility in which subscription plans they offer, but the most popular tend to be monthly and annual plans. Monthly is easily the most common, but annual plans usually come with a nice discount.<\/p>\n With iOS 26.5, Apple started providing a new subscription option<\/a> that\u2019s a sort of blend between these popular plans.<\/p>\n It\u2019s an annual subscription split into 12 monthly payments. Or as Apple puts it, a \u201cmonthly with 12-month commitment\u201d plan.
