The new Bulletin editor starts tomorrow.<\/p>\n
Henry Oliver is joining The Spinoff as the new editor of weekday morning newsletter The Bulletin.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Oliver, the former editor of Metro magazine, will write his first newsletter tomorrow, and is very much looking forward to getting up at the abominable hour of 4am.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite the new hell-setting on his alarm, Oliver is ready to write a newsletter of his own, after years as a serial subscriber to other people\u2019s.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always loved the directness and intimacy of email newsletters,\u201d says Oliver. \u201cI love that they\u2019re opt-in, you\u2019re getting it because you want it. And they\u2019re reliable, they show up on schedule, so you can read them whenever you want in a context you\u2019ve chosen. If there\u2019s nothing in this one for you, or you\u2019re too busy on a particular day, don\u2019t worry \u2013 there\u2019ll be another one with you, same time tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Spinoff\u2019s editor, Veronica Schmidt, says readers of The Bulletin are in good hands.\u00a0\u201cHenry has tremendous talent and sizeable skills, and I look forward to seeing him use both to crunch down an election year\u2019s news into a digestible briefing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Oliver has written for The Guardian, North & South, and served as the editor of Idealog. If Winston Peters were to hear about Oliver\u2019s appointment to The Spinoff, he may remark that this was not Oliver\u2019s first rodeo. He would be right: Oliver was The Spinoff\u2019s music editor between 2016 and 2019.<\/p>\n

Catherine McGregor, the outgoing Bulletin editor, has been prevented from leaving The Spinoff, despite her best attempts, and will be taking up a new role as commercial editor.<\/p>\n
