He is also charged with obstructing police and failing to carry out obligations in relation to a computer search.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Ramsay pleaded guilty to five charges of possession of an objectionable publication. <\/p>\n
In her opening address on Monday, Crown prosecutor Anna McConachy said still images found on one laptop ranged from category one (child nudity or erotic posing) to category five, depicting sadism or bestiality.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Ramsay\u2019s lawyer, John Wayne Howell, asked why Ramsay had objectionable images.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said he did not view them as \u201cobjectionable\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, distasteful, disgusting, but I think as an academic and a researcher, everything should be open for review and criticism.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he was looking at developing an \u201cAI search engine\u201d for the benefit of \u201claw enforcement\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said he had not spoken to law enforcement about it because it was in the \u201cdevelopment stage\u201d.<\/p>\n
Howell asked if he had the images for sexual gratification purposes.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said no, because it was for \u201cresearch\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sex toys the \u2018safer\u2019 option<\/p>\n
Ramsay said the boy had instigated conversations with him about sex and bestiality.<\/p>\n
He said he briefly gave the boy oral sex for about one minute after he asked for it, and supplied him with sex toys as a \u201csafer option\u201d to the way the boy was masturbating.<\/p>\n
He did not view the oral sex as sexual: \u201cI was fully clothed … \u201d<\/p>\n
Howell asked if Ramsay had health issues at the time of the alleged offending.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said he had, among other issues, erectile dysfunction.<\/p>\n
Man claims showing videos an \u2018educative experiential learning process\u2019 <\/p>\n
Howell asked Ramsay if he had shown the girl pornography, to which Ramsay responded, \u201cnot in the way the law describes\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said he showed her videos of \u201canimation of internal functions\u201d and \u201csimulated sex\u201d.<\/p>\n
He claimed it was after they had seen dogs having sex, and the girl asked him what they were doing.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said he went on YouTube \u201cand found some animated videos that showed the process\u201d.<\/p>\n
Howell asked why Ramsay explained what the dogs were doing.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said he had an education background and it was an \u201ceducative experiential learning process\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said it had \u201cabsolutely zero\u201d sexual element to it.<\/p>\n
He denied having a sexual interest in the two children.<\/p>\n
Ramsay tries to \u2018victim-blame\u2019 children – Crown <\/p>\n
McConachy said there was a \u201csignificant\u201d age gap between Ramsay and the children, and Ramsay had been trying to \u201cvictim-blame\u201d them for what he did.<\/p>\n
She said it was \u201ca load of rubbish\u201d that Ramsay was collecting images for \u201cresearch\u201d and asked why he had not run it past law enforcement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThird-party disclosure risks losing patent ability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said images of people having sex with dogs being found on his computer, and the boy alleging Ramsay tried to make him have sex with a dog, were a coincidence.<\/p>\n
McConachy played a recording from a microcassette found in Ramsay\u2019s belongings.<\/p>\n
The court heard a man saying, \u201cI don\u2019t know that sex really hurts children … if it is that detrimental to children.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ramsay disagreed that it was him talking, and he disagreed with what was said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think AI has produced this.\u201d<\/p>\n
McConachy questioned why sex toys were found during a police search when Ramsay claimed he was impotent.<\/p>\n
She suggested impotency was \u201cjust some excuse … to talk away these allegations\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ramsay said he had \u201cnever\u201d used the sex toys, and he bought them for the children \u201cto answer their questions\u201d.<\/p>\n
She asked if he intended to provide medical documentation to prove he had erectile dysfunction.<\/p>\n
He said he understood Health NZ had been asked for proof, but claimed the government agency had not supplied it.<\/p>\n
McConachy said it was \u201ccompletely untrue\u201d that the boy had instigated oral sex with Ramsay, and it was a product of Ramsay\u2019s grooming him.<\/p>\n
Ramsay denied this.<\/p>\n
The Crown and defence were expected to deliver their closing arguments today. <\/p>\n
