Marlon Wayans<\/a> says that comedy has been in \u201crecession\u201d for 15 years because comics are afraid of cancel culture.<\/p>\n

In a sit-down interview with GQ, the comedian promoted his upcoming film Scary Movie 6 and expressed his thoughts about the sensitivity of modern humor. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like for the past 15 years, we\u2019ve been in a recession in terms of comedy,\u201d Wayans said around the 19-minute mark of the video below. \u201cI think people are scared. I think executives are scared, like, \u2018You can\u2019t say that, you can\u2019t say this,\u2019 and it\u2019s like, you\u2019re right. You can\u2019t, but I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wayans said he can deliver dark jokes without fear of repercussions. <\/p>\n

\u201cI know how and when to make an audience laugh with dark stuff,\u201d the comedian said. \u201cI do it all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then turned his attention to \u201ccancel culture\u201d saying the idea \u201cdoesn\u2019t exist.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThose are a bunch of sensitive ass people that ain\u2019t going to watch my show anyway,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Wayans\u2019 comments come days after he addressed<\/a> comedian Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s joke about George Floyd<\/a> at Kevin Hart\u2019s roast.<\/p>\n

While speaking to Hollywood Unlocked, Marlon and his brother, Shawn Wayans<\/a>, explained that they support the style of comedy that led to Hinchcliffe\u2019s controversial joke\u2014but didn\u2019t think it was funny.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou gotta understand, if you take it there, and you go there, and you get that \u2018Ooooooh,\u2019 you better make sure the laugh is worth the offense,\u201d Marlon Wayans said. \u201cThat laugh doesn\u2019t hit, and that meter falls fast in your face.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just wasn\u2019t funny enough, and in this case, it\u2019s too sensitive, and he didn\u2019t find the right joke,\u201d he added. \u201cIf you find the right joke and George Floyd\u2019s family laughs, you did the right joke. If you go there, you better come out with some laughs, and his mother better be laughing the hardest.\u201d<\/p>\n
