June is nearly here, bringing both summer (finally!) and a fresh wave of new movies and TV shows to the best streaming services<\/a>. If you’re an HBO Max subscriber, you’re in luck because the platform has another stacked month of titles lined up.<\/p>\n

To celebrate Pride Month, the streamer is launching an LGBTQ+ Collection Page highlighting stories that celebrate the community. One standout title is “Pillion,” an unconventional, saucy-and-sweet love story starring Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd and Harry Melling. Elsewhere on the film front, look out for the groovy premiere of “Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World),” a new music documentary directed and produced by hip-hop legend Questlove.<\/p>\n

You might be surprised to hear that a BDSM biker movie is one of the most romantic movies of the last year, but writer-director Harry Lighton achieves just that with “Pillion,” which stars Harry Melling as Colin, a shy, introverted gay man living with his parents (Douglas Hodge and Lesley Sharp) in London who has an unexpected pub encounter with a Ray (Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd), a handsome and enigmatic member of a local biker club.<\/p>\n

Soon thereafter, the odd-couple pair begins engaging in an intense dominant-and-submissive relationship, with Colin obeying Ray’s every whim and getting pulled deeper into his dom’s fetish biker lifestyle and his social sphere. There’s a whole lot of vulnerability and sweetness beneath those leather collars, however. Over on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, where the A24 drama has a near-perfect 99% approval rating, critics praised the “dom-rom” as “a remarkable directorial debut by Harry Lighton … that soars thanks to its nonjudgmental perspective and knockout performances.”<\/p>\n

In his new HBO original documentary, “Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World,” director Ahmir \u201cQuestlove\u201d Thompson tells the story of the legendary, nine-time Grammy-winning soul-funk band Earth, Wind & Fire, “tracing their genesis through late founding member Maurice White, chronicling their evolution, highs and lows, and relevance from the 1970s into the present day while exploring the deep philosophical and spiritual meaning behind their message and music,” per the film’s official synopsis.<\/p>\n
