Woods entered rehab after he was involved in a car crash on March 27. His SUV clipped a truck while overtaking on a residential road, rolled on to its side and slid to a stop, AFP reported.<\/p>\n
Police said he had not been drinking but appeared impaired, with two hydrocodone pills found in his pocket. Woods declined a urine test and was charged with misdemeanour DUI and refusal to submit to a lawful test and distracted driving.<\/p>\n
Body camera video released by police showed Woods was surprised when he was arrested.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this time, I do believe your normal faculties are impaired,\u201d a deputy tells Woods in the video. \u201cAnd you\u2019re under an unknown substance, so at this time you are under arrest for DUI.\u201d<\/p>\n
In footage, he told authorities he was talking with \u201cthe President\u201d just before he crashed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI looked down at my phone and all of a sudden, boom,\u201d Woods said.<\/p>\n
Woods pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence, AFP reported, and was granted permission to leave the United States to attend rehab.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in,\u201d Woods said in a statement shortly after flipping his SUV.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment on focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my wellbeing and work toward lasting recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sources speaking to Page Six said Woods is committed to his recovery and remains focused on doing what is required to continue his rehabilitation.
