Rosie O\u2019Donnell is opening up about the guilt she felt going under the knife for a secret facelift.<\/p>\n
The 64-year-old comedian explained in a poem titled \u201cDecisions,\u201d posted to her Substack on Monday, that she feels \u201cshameful\u201d over her privilege in the world, according to Page Six<\/a>.<\/p>\n O\u2019Donnell admitted that the cosmetic procedure \u201ccost more money\u201d than she \u201chas ever paid\u201d for a vehicle.<\/p>\n \u201cThe things I have \u2013 earned some say, but it\u2019s the gross excess that wounds me,\u201d the actress penned.<\/p>\n However, O\u2019Donnell wasn\u2019t always on board with elective surgery.<\/p>\n \u201cI used to feel very strongly about facelifts,\u201d she wrote. \u201cNot casually \u2014 morally. I had assigned myself as head of all women who would never \u2014 ever [get one].\u201d<\/p>\n O\u2019Donnell elaborated that while she once thought facelifts were a \u201cbetrayal\u201d of feminism, losing 50 pounds [22kg] gave her a change of heart.<\/p>\n When looking in the mirror and facing gravity, the mum of five tried to reassure herself that it was \u201cnatural,\u201d but that \u201cacceptance\u201d started \u201cto feel like lying.\u201d<\/p>\n O\u2019Donnell\u2019s child Clay, 13, meanwhile, tried to talk her out of it, telling the talk show host she \u201cearned\u201d her wrinkles.<\/p>\n \u201cWhich \u2014 first of all \u2014 rude,\u201d O\u2019Donnell mused. \u201cBut also \u2026 correct. Then Clay said, \u2018Young women look up to you.\u2019 And finally \u2014 with strong effect \u2014 \u2018I wouldn\u2019t be able to respect you if you did it.\u2019 And that one \u2026 landed.\u201d<\/p>\n O\u2019Donnell confessed that Clay sounded \u201cexactly\u201d like her younger self, which \u201cthrew\u201d her for a loop.<\/p>\n \u201cI delayed the whole thing for months, just sitting with it, thinking,\u201d she detailed.<\/p>\n Ultimately, O\u2019Donnell felt the need to teach her child that people have the power to do what they please with their own faces and bodies.<\/p>\n Now, the A League of Their Own star is pleased with her results.<\/p>\n \u201cI wanted to still be me, just \u2026 less haunted,\u201d O\u2019Donnell expressed. \u201cAnd I do look like me \u2014 A slightly more well-rested, emotionally stable version of me.\u201d<\/p>\n She added that \u201cno one has noticed\u201d the facelift.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t disappear, I didn\u2019t become someone else \u2014 I just stopped arguing with the mirror,\u201d O\u2019Donnell reflected. \u201cAnd maybe that\u2019s enough. Or at the very least \u2026 it\u2019s what a lower deep plane face lift looks like when it minds its own business.\u201d<\/p>\n Going forward, the star decided she will use her voice whenever she feels \u201ccalled to.\u201d<\/p>\n As O\u2019Donnell put it, it\u2019s \u201cfor the girl I was, the woman I am and all those joining my ranks as we carry on in act three, this is me.\u201d<\/p>\n On Monday, LadyGang co-creator Keltie Knight also revealed she had gotten a secret facelift and felt guilt surrounding the surgery.<\/p>\n \u201cI felt shame about actually going through with it,\u201d she wrote in an essay for Glamour<\/a>. \u201cI know younger women are getting facelifts and proudly own their decision, but I was 41.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt was like couture. A couture facelift,\u201d the 44-year-old added.<\/p>\n
