Weezer mainman Rivers Cuomo has released a whole load of covers onto YouTube, but many fans are not sure if it was all an accident. <\/p>\n

The tracks are in a playlist titled \u2018randum cuverz\u2019. They\u2019re all lo-fi, acoustic takes on, well, modern standards \u2013 Jolene, Hotel California, Nirvana<\/a>\u2019s Lithium, Creep by Radiohead<\/a>, Hey Ya! By Outkast, Metallica<\/a>\u2019s Enter Sandman, Sweet Child O\u2019 Mine, Billie Jean and Whitney Houston\u2019s I Wanna Dance With Somebody.<\/p>\n

Many of the covers date from 2018\/ 2019 but there are some that seem to go back at least 20 years. Some of them are songs that Weezer actually went on to cover live, like Lithium.<\/p>\n

But many fans are speculating that the covers aren\u2019t a sudden act of beneficence, but that Cuomo has accidentally made the videos public while he\u2019s been privately archiving his Dropbox. Comments include \u201c\u2019Private upload for playlist: randum cuver\u2019 Who\u2019s gonna tell Rivers it\u2019s not private\u201d and \u201cRivers, you put the videos on public.\u201d<\/p>\n

There has, as yet, been no comment from Cuomo himself. So who knows what he intended?<\/p>\n

What we do know for certain is that a new Weezer studio album \u2013 which will be their 16th in all \u2013 is in the works. The band released its first single Shine Again last month and have been playing some unusual gigs, what they are calling their \u2018initiation shows\u2019 – one was at a rooftop event in LA, another at a branch of chain restaurant Barney\u2019s Beanery.<\/p>\n

And if you haven\u2019t been lucky enough to catch one of those, Cuomo and co have pencilled in an extensive US tour for the autumn. \u2018The Gathering\u2019 kicks off at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on September 8 and winds its way all over the States, concluding at Los Angeles\u2019 evocatively-named Crypto.com Arena on October 24.<\/p>\n
