And just going by the stock market (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/30\/economy\/stock-markets-record-high\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which isn\u2019t the economy, by the way<\/a>), this period looks like a Golden Age.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmph3ohqb00043j6s1496lwwb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscourts.gov\/data-news\/judiciary-news\/2025\/11\/24\/bankruptcy-filings-increase-10-6-percent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">bankruptcy filings have increased<\/a> for the past three years; debt levels have grown; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/02\/10\/business\/retail-sales-december\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">delinquency rates<\/a> have moved higher; and the personal savings rate is at its lowest in more than three years.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpfj22zo00023j6s8oanb4xq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI should be securely in the middle class,\u201d said Massey, who lives in a relatively low-cost-of-living Nashville suburb. \u201cI should be fine, and I\u2019m not.
