Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is inviting aspiring artists aged 13 to 19 to apply for its Sculpture in Practice two-week summer intensive programme, with applications due by Friday, June 5.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson said, \u201cThis immersive and materials-led course invites young creatives to explore sculpture through experimentation, collaboration, and hands-on making. Whether participants are experienced artists or simply curious about working in three dimensions, the programme offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with contemporary sculptural practice in a supportive and inspiring environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cRunning Monday through Friday from July 13th to 24th, the intensive will take place daily from 8:30am \u2013 1:00pm at Masterworks Museum. Across ten sessions, students will learn foundational sculptural techniques while developing their own creative voice and producing original work for a final public exhibition.<\/p>\n
\u201cParticipants will experiment with a wide range of materials and processes, including clay, plaster, alginate, modroc, latex, wire, and resin. The first week of the programme will focus on exploration and material discovery, while the second week will support students in developing and completing a finished sculptural work for exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo previous sculpture experience is required,\u201d says Course Leader Katarina Hoskins. \u201cThis programme is about curiosity, experimentation, and giving young people the confidence to think and create beyond their imagination, from 2D to 3D. I also want to give them a real taste of what it means to develop an art practice: how to experiment, how to prepare a piece for a show, and how to present their work to the world. So much of what young people do today happens on a screen. This is a chance to step away from that \u2014 to work with their hands, discover new skills, and find a balance that I think is becoming increasingly rare and increasingly important.\u201d<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said, \u201cHoskins is currently completing her BA in Fine Art at the Art Academy London, where her practice centres on feminist sculpture using materials such as concrete, bronze, steel, resin, latex, and plaster. Originally from Austria and long based in Bermuda, Hoskins is a former board member of Masterworks Museum and founder of International Women\u2019s Day Bermuda. Through Sculpture in Practice, she hopes to bring the skills and perspectives she has gained abroad back to Bermuda\u2019s next generation of artists.<\/p>\n
\u201cThroughout the programme, participants will also engage with Bermudian guest artists, including Scott King, Zo\u00eb Hedstrom, Jahbarri Wilson, and others, who will share insights into their creative practices and professional artistic journeys.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWorkshop fees are $500 for Masterworks members and $550 for non-members. Five fully funded bursaries are available for students requiring financial assistance.<\/p>\n
