On Wednesday evening, the music legend went on TikTok to promote his new album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/music\/paul-mccartney\/paul-mccartney-the-boys-of-dungeon-lane-album-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Boys of Dungeon Lane<\/a>, which is out today. During the 45-minute stream, he discussed the trajectory of his career and answered questions from fans, many of which understandably revolved around the Beatles. \u201cWhen we started out, we were just kids, and rock and roll was just really coming in, and we thought, \u2018If we\u2019re lucky, we\u2019ve got a couple of years,\u2019\u201d McCartney said. \u201cThat\u2019s how long people normally lasted.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Beatles lasted eight years, but their legacy has far surpassed that. McCartney coyly admitted as much on the live: \u201cI think the Beatles were the greatest band ever\u2026 I\u2019m a fan.\u201d In the past, he\u2019s demurred the title, saying it ought to go to the Everly Brothers, a group he claims were a major inspiration for him and John Lennon. \u201cWe expected five years max, and then that became ten and we were kind of still going, and the scene\u2019s still there,\u201d McCartney continued. \u201cThen it became 20, then 30, and now it\u2019s right up there. It is a lovely feeling.\u201d McCartney\u2019s been in such a nostalgic mood recently that he even invited his old bandmate Ringo Starr to sing a duet with him, \u201cHome to Us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite his 60 years of success, McCartney seemed genuinely touched by the Beatles\u2019 lasting importance. \u201cPeople will come to me and say, \u2018My kids love your music,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s something, you know, because you can\u2019t indoctrinate kids. They just either like it or they don\u2019t.\u201d He also commended streaming for enabling the band\u2019s legacy to continue. \u201cI don\u2019t care how people choose to access it.
