The Maggie May, Sailing and Da Ya Think I\u2019m Sexy? singer remains one of Britain\u2019s most successful recording artists and has repeatedly insisted he has no plans to retire despite scaling back the size of his tours.<\/p>\n
Last year, Stewart clarified confusion surrounding his announcement of a farewell tour, explaining he was stepping away from extensive world tours rather than live performance altogether.<\/p>\n
He said in a statement shared on social media: \u201cThis will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love what I do, and I do what I love.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cI\u2019m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 metres in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stewart has frequently spoken about the fitness regime he believes has helped him continue performing into his ninth decade.<\/p>\n
In an interview last year with AARP, he discussed maintaining a strict training programme, including swimming, sprinting and strength exercises.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cI keep myself very fit. I played soccer all my life \u2013 don\u2019t so much any more, because I had a knee replacement. And I\u2019ve always had a trainer \u2013 same guy for 38 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Describing part of that routine, Stewart said: \u201cWe do a lot of underwater training, where the trainer throws a brick into the pool and I have to dive in, push the brick to the end of the pool, and come up.\u201d<\/p>\n
The singer also revealed he was continuing to work on sprint times on a private running track.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cI got it down to 19 seconds by learning how to push off.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to try and do 17 seconds, which I think is a world record for an 80-year-old.\u201d<\/p>\n
The latest health setback follows a period of renewed public attention for Stewart.<\/p>\n
In recent months he has continued touring while celebrating more than six decades in music, with audiences still flocking to hear classics including Forever Young, Young Turks, Tonight\u2019s the Night, The First Cut Is the Deepest and Have I Told You Lately.<\/p>\n
Fans also continue to associate Stewart with his celebrated work fronting Faces alongside the late Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones, before embarking on one of the most successful solo careers in British music history.<\/p>\n
Social media users reacted to the cancellation with frustration after some received notifications less than two hours before the scheduled start time.<\/p>\n
