{"id":455047,"date":"2026-06-01T06:47:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T06:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/455047\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T06:47:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T06:47:09","slug":"tree-in-north-petherton-cemetery-turned-into-prayer-sculpture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/455047\/","title":{"rendered":"Tree in North Petherton cemetery turned into prayer sculpture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Pearn said the sculpture is now his &#8220;favourite&#8221; work, as it is in the open for &#8220;everyone to see&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The sculpture is called a prayer to those past and previous,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;They [the council] were worried about the tree falling into the church, but didn&#8217;t want to get rid of the whole tree, so left the bottom of the trunk for something like this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;There was a planning stage of 5-6 months, figuring out what carving, especially for the longevity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;To create the sculpture, it took me five days, from when I first picked up the chainsaw, to the final sanding and oiling.
