(Image: Colin Hattersley)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Titled Into the Garden, the exhibition opens on Saturday, June 6, and features works inspired by gardens, wildflowers and the changing seasons.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The collection includes paintings of wildflowers from the Borders and Berwickshire, blossoms influenced by a visit to Kew Gardens and a selection of the artist&#8217;s signature still-life works.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Oram paints daily from her studio in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bordertelegraph.com\/news\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Scottish Borders<\/a> and has built a career spanning almost five decades.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Born in London in 1956, she grew up in the Highlands before studying at Edinburgh College of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/topics\/art\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Art<\/a>, where she later became a member of the teaching staff.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Her work has been exhibited widely both in the UK and internationally, including solo exhibitions at galleries in Edinburgh, London and Vienna.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Alongside Ms Oram&#8217;s work, the exhibition will also feature paintings by fellow artists including Kate Bentley RSW, Jacqueline Orr RSW PAI, Mhairi McGregor RSW PAI, Jenny Martin RSW, Jennifer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irvinetimes.com\/local-news\/irvine-news\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Irvine<\/a> RSW RGI and Lorna Sinclair.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ann Oram said: &#8220;Gardens are my sanctuary and my studio.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I love the element of surprise, the seasons dictate what I find, and I love what that gives me.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I love still life, and painting things that are in front of me.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I still get excited about the materials, working with watercolour, gouache, acrylic and oil, and I love colour.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I knew from quite a young age that I wanted to paint, and I&#8217;ve been painting pretty much my whole life.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;It&#8217;s quite a privilege because not everyone gets that opportunity.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Eileadh Swan, director of Morningside Gallery, said: &#8220;After exhibiting Ann&#8217;s paintings for many years, we are delighted to celebrate her 70th birthday year with this special exhibition.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Flowers and gardens are synonymous with Ann and she brings the subject matter to life so beautifully on the canvas.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ann Oram in her Borders studio with work for the exhibition.
