Exclusive: Natalie Bassingthwaighte<\/a> has been in the spotlight for 28 years. Yet, when finally given the microphone to reclaim her own narrative, she admits to a surprising truth \u2013 she was absolutely terrified.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was scared of people hating me, I was scared people were going to judge,\u201d she confessed.<\/p>\n

Natalie Bassingthwaighte says she’s “done pretending” life is perfect. \u00a0Supplied<\/p>\n

After all, her divorce played out under a harsh media lens<\/a>, as does her current relationship with fianc\u00e9e Pip Loth<\/a>. Why would she share the most vulnerable parts of her life?\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the first time in a long time, I\u2019m feeling like myself,\u201d she explains.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That powerful feeling is partly why the Rogue Traders star, 50, has bared her \u201cheart and soul\u201d in her brand-new memoir Love Like This.<\/p>\n

But with a new book, new album, a 21st anniversary tour and a lead role in hit musical Waitress, this returned feeling has also empowered her next move.<\/p>\n

Yes, the Someday Soon singer has a wedding to plan. But what Bass really wants is to build a life with her partner Pip<\/a> on their newly purchased patch of land.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were talking about [the wedding] the other day and we\u2019re like, should we do it next year? But we\u2019ve just bought some land!\u201d Bass revealed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest picture for us right now is to build our home and make it just ours, which we haven\u2019t had the opportunity to do yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple placed a deposit for a block of land in northern NSW and hope to start building their home in April next year.<\/p>\n

They might even get married there. <\/p>\n

\u201cI mean because I\u2019ve been married before I was like, I\u2019m happy with a picnic,\u201d she confessed.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut for Pip, it\u2019s their first time getting married and being in a queer relationship, it\u2019s incredibly important to celebrate that too.\u201d <\/p>\n

By moving up north, the singer hopes for more balance in her life. \u201cI feel like my mental and physical health needs more downtime, you know? It needs more time outside.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bass admits: “I’m definitely shifting into a new space.”\u00a0Instagram \/ @natbassingthwaighte<\/p>\n

And more chickens, apparently.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re teasing to my daughter that we\u2019re going to get chickens because she hates birds,\u201d Bass went on. \u201cEvery time she\u2019s naughty, we\u2019ll go, let\u2019s get some chickens!\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer shares two kids \u2013 Harper, 16, and Hendrix, 13 \u2013 with her ex-husband Cameron McGlinchey, who she\u2019s currently touring with.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not weird at all, she insisted.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I think we\u2019re handling it pretty well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The singer and Rogue Traders drummer have reunited with the rest of the band for their 21st Anniversary \u2018Anthems\u2019 tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike anything, there\u2019s highs and lows. But we love what we get to do and we\u2019re in a really great place,\u201d said the mum-of-two.<\/p>\n

Bass announced her split from husband and former bandmate Cameron McGlinchey in August 2023 after 13 years together.\u00a0Instagram \/ @natbassingthwaighte<\/p>\n

As we were speaking, Bass revealed McGlinchey was coming over later in the week with the kids. The four of them had planned a road-trip round the band\u2019s next three gigs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really special that we can do that,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe took the kids on tour with us a year ago and that was like the first time they\u2019ve gone, \u2018Oh my god, this is what mum and dad do?\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

But, behind the stage lights, screaming fans and book promos, fianc\u00e9 Pip Loth has been her inspiration through it all.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m being seen and heard in a way that I never thought was possible,\u201d Bass beamed of her current relationship.<\/p>\n

That includes being very open about their intimate life<\/a>, which Bass candidly spoke about while on the Carrie and Tommy show<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n

Bass has described her reconnection with stage manager Loth as an “electricity” between them. \u00a0Instagram \/ @natbassingthwaighte<\/p>\n

The hosts asked if her intimate life was \u201cso different\u201d now with Loth than it was in her previous relationships.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes! Yes! The first time that we had actually had sex, after about six or seven hours \u2026 I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m telling you this on the radio! It was so good,\u201d Bass replied enthusiastically.<\/p>\n

\u201cI left and my whole body was shaking so much. I get in the car and I\u2019m like, \u2018Don\u2019t touch me\u2019, I was shaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to nine.com.au, Bass reacted: \u201cI did leave that day going, oh my God, did I just say that?<\/p>\n

\u201cThen I was like, oh well, f–k it. It\u2019s in my book anyway, people are going to read it if they want to read it,\u201d she laughed.<\/p>\n

She described her memoir as \u201ca beautiful representation of all the highs and lows and everything in between\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cI really like who I am and what I stand for,\u201d Bass reflected.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe as humans put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect and I find that really frustrating.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want people to know that I\u2019m a real person and I want to share my story and share the hardest bits and to say it\u2019s OK for you to do that as well, and to cry and grieve and to have shame and to come out the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, why would Bass share her story now?<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause I\u2019m done pretending,\u201d she smiled. <\/p>\n

On top of her memoir, Bass stars in Waitress, alongside the talented Rob Mills, in a show described as \u201cprobably one of the most beautiful pieces of theatre I\u2019ve ever worked on\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bass says Rob Mills is one of the “kindest, hardest working men in the industry”. \u00a0Supplied<\/p>\n

But she did have one admission. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is it. This is my last show,\u201d she revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I say, this is my last show, it has to be… and everyone\u2019s like, \u2018You\u2019ve said that before.\u2019 But if I go out with this show, I\u2019ll be very, very happy,\u201d she beamed. <\/p>\n
