{"id":458277,"date":"2026-06-03T05:02:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T05:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/458277\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T05:02:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T05:02:10","slug":"rupert-everett-wore-bodysuit-under-clothes-to-appear-more-buff-in-films","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/458277\/","title":{"rendered":"Rupert Everett wore bodysuit under clothes to appear more buff in films"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former \u201990s heart-throb Rupert Everett has revealed the great lengths he took to appear more buff on screen.<\/p>\n<p>The British actor opened up to <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2026\/jun\/01\/rupert-everett-interview-rivals-madfabulous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Guardian<\/a> about his \u201cdeep insecurity\u201d regarding his physique when he was younger that it led to the star wearing a padded bodysuit under his clothes to give himself a more muscular appearance on screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI met these two queens in Tufnell Park [in London] who made bodysuits, and they made me a false bottom, false calves, false shoulders, false everything,\u201d he told the masthead.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he wore the custom-made items while starring on his movies, Everett replied, \u201cYes, in everything.\u201d Although, no one on set \u2013 not even the directors \u2013 knew of the secret bodysuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d go into the fittings for the costumes with all my things on,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>The 67-year-old \u2013 who has starred in films such as The Importance of Being Earnest, <\/p>\n<p>An Ideal Husband and My Best Friend\u2019s Wedding \u2013 said that at 193cm tall he often felt awkward in his own skin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy arse was like two bones and a hole. And my legs were skeletal,\u201d he explained of why he needed to enhance his bottom and bulk up his frame.<\/p>\n<p>Everett has spoken about his quest for perfection before, revealing in a 2024 <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/auhome\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a> interview that early in his career he was fixated with emulating Hollywood action stars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was always trying to turn myself into the conventional Hollywood star I wanted to be when I was a kid,\u201d he told the outlet. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to be Tom Cruise! But I was a 6ft 5in beanpole looking like a cross between Snow White and Anne Frank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everett then started hitting the gym to sculpt his physique but admitted he did not train properly and now his body is paying the price.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ruined myself. Now I\u2019m almost crippled as a result,\u201d he continued in The Guardian interview. \u201cI could never be bothered to do all those things, like stretching, which were necessary for lifting weights, because your tendons get tighter and tighter. So boring. I didn\u2019t do any of that.
