{"id":459865,"date":"2026-06-04T02:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T02:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/459865\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T02:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T02:35:08","slug":"grabone-relaunch-follows-1-2m-sale-after-collapse-of-former-owner-global-marketplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/459865\/","title":{"rendered":"GrabOne relaunch follows $1.2m sale after collapse of former owner Global Marketplace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">The Herald reported in March that GrabOne\u2019s new owners were preparing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/business\/companies\/retail\/grabone-to-relaunch-under-new-owner-paradigm-group-after-liquidation-shutdown\/premium\/V6TB5N2CPZF4TL2JWTSFSDBNY4\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/business\/companies\/retail\/grabone-to-relaunch-under-new-owner-paradigm-group-after-liquidation-shutdown\/premium\/V6TB5N2CPZF4TL2JWTSFSDBNY4\/\">to relaunch the business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">At the time, Paradigm Group chief executive Jonty Hodge said GrabOne was \u201cdefinitely something worth saving\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt\u2019s a really well-known, iconic brand,\u201d Hodge said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cAt the end of the day, it was about how we can bring it back to life and bring it back to its roots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe have quite a large taskforce across the relaunch, and we do want to invest heavily into it, particularly from a tech perspective and the offering that we provide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME), publishers of the New Zealand Herald, sold GrabOne in 2021 to Global Marketplace New Zealand for $17.5m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">GrabOne was founded in 2010 as a 50\/50 venture between IdeaHQ \u2013 controlled by entrepreneur Shane Bradley \u2013 and then Herald publisher APN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">APN progressively bought out Bradley\u2019s stake, taking full control in 2013 in a deal worth up to $12.2m.<\/p>\n<p>Creditors facing big shortfall<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">Stoneman and Jackson said a distribution of $990,000 had been made to secured creditors in their recent report, leaving an outstanding claim of $2.3m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">The report said an outstanding balance of $338,000 was owed to Inland Revenue per the company\u2019s records, however, no claims had been received from the tax agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">Unsecured creditors are owed $10.5m, with no distributions made so far.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">The liquidators\u2019 remuneration has so far totalled $168,559. <\/p>\n<p class=\"DjAaGJVL\" style=\"display:none\">Stay ahead with the latest market moves, corporate updates, and economic insights by subscribing to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/my-account\/profile\/newsletters\/?from=cmp\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/my-account\/profile\/newsletters\/?from=cmp\">Business newsletter<\/a> \u2013 your essential weekly round-up of all the business news you need.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Herald reported in March that GrabOne\u2019s new owners were preparing to relaunch the business.
