Palmer asked if the boys understood as they got older how she had created a \u201csafe space\u201d for them, to which Stone replied: \u201cYes. They gave me Father\u2019s Day cards.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stone adopted her eldest son with then-husband Phil Bronstein but the others as a lone parent and knew it was \u201cbetter\u201d for her to proceed in that way.<\/p>\n
Asked why she adopted on her own, she said: \u201cMoving ahead with my own plan and not waiting for other people to figure out if my plan is good, or you like my plan, or you can handle it \u2026 I decided that I could, and you couldn\u2019t. Better by myself. \u2018You\u2019re cute for the weekend\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Euphoria actor praised the dynamic between her own parents, with the clear respect her dad showed to her mum because he knew how much she kept their household going.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI had a fantastic dad. We were very poor and we lived in the country, so we ate what he hunted and fished for. And my mom grew this garden, which she canned in the fall, and we ate those vegetables and fruits throughout the winter. They were a serious team.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd my dad had these very regal manners. When my mom walked in the room, my dad stood up. He pulled out her chair for dinner. He helped her with her coat. If people swore in front of my mother, my dad would say, \u2018We don\u2019t do that\u2019 \u2013 though my mother swore like a sailor.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand that we have to go out in the world and women are going to actually keep it together. The men are going to come and go. They\u2019re going to come and go from work, or from your whole life. But we\u2019re going to keep it together.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe food on the table, the kids going to school, doctor, dentist, all the things \u2013 we\u2019re the ones.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stone expressed her \u201cconcern\u201d that the sense of community she grew up with has faded away with modern society.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up in the country, so we also talked to our neighbours. If they were sick, you helped. We took baskets of food and left them on your doorstep. We didn\u2019t have to make sure you knew it was from us.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a sense of community and care and structure. I feel very grateful to have come from the America that I love and believe in. I have concerns sometimes as we move forward.
