A radio telescope in Australia has built the largest magnetic map of the universe yet, a colorful image five times larger than all the previous radio mapping efforts combined.<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.csiro.au\/en\/news\/All\/News\/2026\/June\/SPICE-RACS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.csiro.au\/en\/news\/All\/News\/2026\/June\/SPICE-RACS\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\">The data<\/a> comes from Australia\u2019s national space agency CSIRO and the SKA Observatory, which recently used the ASKAP radio telescope to scan the skies and build the largest radio map of the universe yet.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-00e236f9-b49a-438e-b253-bd3e6d9893cb-2\">The ASKAP telescope doesn\u2019t collect photographs of the universe in the traditional optical sense, but collects radio waves naturally emitted by stars and galaxies. Light is still essential to the way that the technology works, however. We had once thought it would be impossible to answer these questions.
