I don\u2019t know if we\u2019re all deeply unsatisfied or curious or a mix of both, but focusing on the future has been the Android way of life for more years than I can count.<\/p>\n<p>We know what\u2019s coming in stable Android 17 after several beta updates have landed on Pixel phones. We\u2019ve also seen a preview of the next big update following that, thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.droid-life.com\/2026\/05\/19\/android-17-qpr1-beta-3-is-here-for-pixel-phones\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Android 17 QPR1 beta builds in circulation<\/a>. But what about the next wave of features that could join at some point between now, then, and after?<\/p>\n<p>In the latest Android Canary update, we know that Google is introducing a bunch of new theme color options that I think we\u2019ll all enjoy. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-321439\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Android-Canary-Colors-Pixel-980x551.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Shared on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MishaalRahman\/status\/2062221023186223331\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter<\/a> by Googler Mishaal Rahman, we get a preview of an \u201cexperimental\u201d change coming to Pixel phones. As you can above, Google is testing a new color slider for its Material 3 Expressive theme that will essentially let you choose any color of your liking to takeover your phone\u2019s theme.<\/p>\n<p>We previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.droid-life.com\/2026\/05\/13\/android-17-theme-color-slider\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">saw this in a leak from a few weeks back<\/a>, but the source of that was in question. We now know that this feature has at least graduated to Android Canary.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-321440\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Android-Canary-Colors-980x551.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Another cool change can be seen here, where we have a new set of style options for Neutral, Soft, Bright, and Bold. Each style sets the tone before you get into color selection. <\/p>\n<p>The examples provided shows the subtle differences between each in the Quick Settings area, as well as in the widget picker. I feel like the widget picker really brings out the identity of each, with Bright looking like my style \u2013 I love a color pop in a phone\u2019s theme.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-321443\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Pixel-Color-Tones-Android-Canary-980x551.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Android Canary posts shared to Twitter also suggest more blur to more parts of the Android UI, as well as a new Quick Settings shortcut for switching keyboards.<\/p>\n<p>While Rahman was careful in reminding us that Canary builds are experimental and there is no guarantee for these features to show in a beta or stable version of Android in the future, I can\u2019t exactly see why else he would be highlighting them if they aren\u2019t on the way.<\/p>\n<p>We need these new colors options now, right?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"In the Android space, we spend an ungodly amount of time thinking about what\u2019s coming next.
