At the time, four board members had resigned, leaving two elected trustees in place and allowing the board to continue governing the school.<\/p>\n

However, the ministry has since dissolved the board and appointed a commissioner to oversee the school\u2019s governance.<\/p>\n

Limited statutory manager Kevin Bush, who is overseeing the school, said the ministry had appointed him as commissioner. <\/p>\n

He said a byelection was considered after the four trustees resigned in April, but the process would not have provided the stable, long-term governance the school needed. <\/p>\n

As a result, the remaining two board members chose to step down, allowing a commissioner to be appointed. <\/p>\n

A statement supplied to the Herald from the school said Bush would now assume all board responsibilities, with a focus on stabilising governance and supporting the school\u2019s continued progress. <\/p>\n

It said the school would continue to operate as normal under the leadership of principal Deborah Gosnell.<\/p>\n

Outgoing presiding member Ioane Ioane said strong and stable governance was essential to achieving the best outcomes for students. <\/p>\n

He said he and fellow trustee Charlie Tuhua had chosen to step down in the best interests of the school\u2019s tamariki and kaiako.<\/p>\n

Bush said he acknowledged and thanked the outgoing board members for their service and commitment. <\/p>\n

The decision reflected a clear focus on what was best for the school community, he said. <\/p>\n

On the police investigation, Bush previously said it was unrelated to the board resignations but he was unable to comment on the nature of the complaint because of the ongoing inquiry.<\/p>\n

In a message to the school community in April, Bush said the school was aware of \u201cfactually inaccurate\u201d information circulating but could not provide further details while the police investigation was underway.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate that this may be frustrating for members of our community who understandably want clarity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to provide more information now, but I assure you we will when the investigation is complete.\u201d<\/p>\n

The school has remained open and operating as usual throughout the investigation.<\/p>\n

The governance turmoil follows months of unrest at the school. <\/p>\n

In February, the Herald reported that board members had allegedly left meetings in tears and Bush was called in to take charge<\/a> after infighting around an unsanctioned school trip to Fiji.<\/p>\n

One student was hospitalised and others fell ill during the five-day excursion for a kapa haka troupe linked to Pukekohe North School in December.<\/p>\n

A source close to Pukekohe North School, who wished to remain anonymous, said the board was divided over whether the trip should go ahead because of missing information on essential forms, including documents regarding health and safety.<\/p>\n
