\n The Scots Pine tree at Prospect Place, featured in the Hythe and Dibden Parish Council’s logo, was cut down after being deemed in “permanent decline” in March.\n<\/p>\n
\n The tree was felled on Thursday, May 14, and in an effort to preserve the tree’s history, a sculpture was carved from its stump.\n<\/p>\n
\n In an announcement posted to their Facebook, the council thanked sculptor Ella Fielding for crafting the piece in challenging weather conditions on Remembrance Day.\n<\/p>\n
\n The sculpture was initially planned to be unveiled on Heritage Day, June 27.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, due to the condition of the tree, it was advised to leave the newly sculptured remembrance poppy uncovered, to be exposed to the natural elements as soon as possible.\n<\/p>\n
\n A spokesperson from Hythe and Dibden Parish Council said:\u00a0“There are still additions to be added by the Waterside Woodcarvers before the 27th June, Heritage Day event.\n<\/p>\n
