An East Otago photographer has had her work featured at T\u016bhura Otago Museum for the second straight year.<\/p>\n
The T\u016bhura Photography Exhibition is on display in Dunedin at present.<\/p>\n
Created in collaboration with the Department of Conservation, the exhibition features the best images submitted to the 2026 T\u016bhura Photography Competition.<\/p>\n
Waikouaiti-based photographer Michell Brunton has five of her shots featured in the exhibition.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018I couldn\u2019t believe I got five in \u2014 that was a bit of a surprise,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n
The key to wildlife photography was \u2018\u2018heaps\u2019\u2019 of practice, she said.<\/p>\n
Understanding the animals she was shooting also helped.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018It\u2019s not really hit and miss. There\u2019s quite a bit of thought and planning that needs to go into it.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
She has road-tripped to the West Coast, Central Otago and the Catlins to shoot, but also loves taking photos at Hawksbury Lagoon in Waikouaiti.<\/p>\n
In previous years, the competition was only open to Otago residents and the record for entry numbers was under 5000.<\/p>\n
But this year, organisers opened it up to photographers across the country with a new national pop-up category \u2014 Wild Aotearoa \u2014 and received more than 9000 entries across all four categories.<\/p>\n
Other categories were wildlife, botanical and landscape.<\/p>\n
