He had previously been the subject of HR complaints by NZME staff. \" class=\"article-media__image responsively-lazy\" data-test-ui=\"article-media__image\"\/>Former chief executive of OneRoof, Greg Hornblow, was sentenced to 10 months&#8217; home detention after admitting to receiving commercial sex services from a 14-year-old girl. He had previously been the subject of HR complaints by NZME staff. <\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/business\/media-insider\/nzme-independent-workplace-inquiry-summary-released-following-departure-of-three-senior-managers\/premium\/TNW5SSWEHRASZJE5YAJIQQXUHQ\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/business\/media-insider\/nzme-independent-workplace-inquiry-summary-released-following-departure-of-three-senior-managers\/premium\/TNW5SSWEHRASZJE5YAJIQQXUHQ\/\">The independent workplace review<\/a> was conducted by lawyer Andrew Scott-Howman and a summary of its findings were sent to staff by NZME chair Steven Joyce and chief executive Michael Boggs in April. <\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">Joyce and Boggs told staff the review found NZME had more work to do to \u201cpromote and maintain a supportive work environment in which employees and other persons are treated with respect and dignity\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">They said the company \u201cwants to earn your confidence by ensuring any allegations raised are treated seriously and handled appropriately\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">They also said the review identified two other specific issues elsewhere in the company, which were referred to Boggs and NZME\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">In a statement to the Herald this week, Boggs said, \u201cAs previously mentioned, NZME\u2019s independent review identified two specific issues within the company. These matters were addressed immediately. <\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cAs a result, one of the people involved no longer works at NZME. <\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe other matter remains under investigation, and we expect that to conclude shortly. Photo \/ Composite<\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">A former senior staff member at NZME &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/nz\/executive-who-admitted-paying-for-underage-sex-faced-separate-workplace-investigation-before-he-was-sacked-over-charge\/J6MMKWSUWBGE7HEKBHDPCFPYIE\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/nz\/executive-who-admitted-paying-for-underage-sex-faced-separate-workplace-investigation-before-he-was-sacked-over-charge\/J6MMKWSUWBGE7HEKBHDPCFPYIE\/\">one of the employees who raised concerns about Hornblow to the company\u2019s HR team prior to his arrest<\/a> &#8211; told the Herald she would have liked the review to have actively engaged with all NZME staff rather than focusing on OneRoof and ZM.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">She also wanted information released about what was discovered in the review that led to a staff member leaving. <\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI understand the need to protect people\u2019s privacy, but the lack of detail makes it difficult \u2026 to assess whether &#8230; management\u2019s response matched the seriousness of the issues identified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">In a statement, Boggs said while the review was focused on OneRoof and ZM \u201cthe board also invited anyone from across the company who may have concerns to contribute to the review.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe are committed to ensuring our people feel safe and supported in reporting any concerns they have and that they can be confident any complaint will be taken seriously and addressed promptly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"xRCtHSZoMFoDBmw\" style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/author\/carolyne-meng-yee\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/author\/carolyne-meng-yee\/\">Carolyne Meng-Yee<\/a> is an Auckland-based investigative journalist who won Best Documentary at the Voyager Media Awards.
