He discusses the possibility and conditions of doing a solo Lobo movie, a battle of strengths between Lobo, Aquaman, and Street Fighter\u2019s Blanka, and shares exciting updates on A Minecraft Movie\u2019s sequel<\/a> and Dune 3<\/a>.<\/p>\n Jason Momoa Isn’t Making a Solo Lobo Movie Unless It’s Rated R<\/p>\n “It’s all I want.”<\/p>\n COLLIDER: Are you scheduled to go to Atlanta any time soon? I ask because that’s where they’re filming a certain Superman sequel, and a lot of us are hoping that Lobo could make an appearance.<\/p>\n JASON MOMOA: Fuck, I wish. No. I’m not.<\/p>\n That’s very disappointing.<\/p>\n MOMOA: Sorry.<\/p>\n Have James and Peter talked to you about the possibility of an R-rated Lobo movie? Because for a lot of us, this is all we want.<\/p>\n MOMOA: It\u2019s all I want, and I promise \u2014 I’m just going to put this out there right now \u2014 I do not have any interest in making a Lobo PG-13 movie. So, will he be a part of some other movies? If they want me, I’ll be there. But if I make a solo movie, I’m not doing it unless it\u2019s rated R.<\/p>\n Thank you for saying that. I’m trying to will this into existence.<\/p>\n MOMOA: As I will with you, but it has to be rated R.<\/p>\n If your Aquaman, Lobo, and Blanka were to get into a fight, who comes in first, who is in second, and who is easily defeated?<\/p>\n MOMOA: Blanka is easily defeated. Well, I mean, Lobo can’t be killed, but I mean Aquaman, he can, but the trident’s pretty powerful. So, I think Lobo walks out prevailing.<\/p>\n I was also wondering if it depends on where the fight takes place, like in the ocean.<\/p>\n MOMOA: He could drown his ass, yes. But Blanka is screwed either way. To me, personally, I think Lobo and Aquaman have a lot in common. They\u2019d probably just grab a couple of beers and go ride motorcycles and just have some beers, and they’ll be perfectly fine.<\/p>\n Something I learned when prepping for this interview, and I don’t know if you know this, but Stan Lee said his favorite DC character was Lobo.<\/p>\n MOMOA: Absolutely.<\/p>\n He said, “I thought he was a character that should be a Marvel character because he’s the worst human being on Earth, and he was so evil and vile and strong and ugly, and I loved him. But he belonged to DC.”<\/p>\n MOMOA: It’s amazing. That’s from the man.<\/p>\n Jason Momoa on Becoming Lobo in His “Dream Role”<\/p>\n “It’s an amalgamation of all the things that we love.”<\/p>\n You said this is a role that you’ve wanted for a long time. I know how passionate this has been for you. Was there a specific panel or a cover or version of Lobo that lived in your head that was in your mind for when you wanted to portray him on screen?<\/p>\n MOMOA: It’s tough because some things don’t translate. You know what I mean? Just because I love a certain image of him, we can’t make it that big. He’s not the Hulk. He’s not this and that. So, the really cool thing about this journey doing Lobo was we have so many talented artists that are coming together, and so creating this was a collaborative process. So everything from the wardrobe to my prosthetics on my body, everyone got to pick their favorite bits. So, I mean, it’s an amalgamation of all the things that we love.<\/p>\n Something that I just couldn’t believe, and you talked about, was how you were covered in prosthetics, makeup, and the red contact lenses. What is it actually like for you, who’s never done something like that, to actually be that underwater, if you will, with everything around your body?<\/p>\n MOMOA: It was amazing in this because I knew I had five or six scenes in this, and I’m playing my dream role. Doing a four to five-month shoot of this every day, I don’t think it would be the same. It’d be very challenging. So, doing a solo, you\u2019d really have to figure out how you’re going to pull this off, which is fine from here, so I think you can get away with certain body things, but we want to show it off in this one. It was awesome. It was fun, and it actually helped me be the character more because I just get to play pretend, and I’m in that whole thing and I just, I don’t know, it helped me more.<\/p>\n I would imagine you look in the mirror, you see the red contacts, you see what you look like, and you’re like, “I’m not Jason. I’m Lobo.”<\/p>\n MOMOA: Bro, it’s amazing. Jen was there with me, and she puts the contacts in and I can see it in her face. I can see when I open my eyes and I see it on her face, and I see everybody looking at me. They put the cigar in, and then the laugh comes, and then you’re just like, \u201cI’m gonna fuck everything up right now. I’m gonna get on the bike.\u201d There were no inhibitions in every way. I was free.<\/p>\n Jason Momoa’s Very First ‘Supergirl’ Scene Went “Full Throttle”<\/p>\n “That’s why I’m playing Lobo.”<\/p>\n I know that you love motorcycles.<\/p>\n MOMOA: That\u2019s an understatement.<\/p>\n Exactly. So, with the bike in the film, did you at any point want to be involved in what it’s going to look like, or any sort of tweaks you wanted to make, and was it in your contract that you get to take it home?<\/p>\n MOMOA: A lot of things I tried to put in my contract to take home. Unfortunately, I did not. This one was a hard one to steal. They’re not gonna let me have that one. But I was a part of it. Dennis [McCarthy] was at the heart of designing it. There was probably a whole team, but Dennis really put it together. He did like stuff with Fast, so I’ve worked with him before. He’s worked on a lot of my cars, and so he would show me images of it that they didn’t know that they were showing me. It was just because we were pals. So, I got to see a lot of stuff.<\/p>\n It’s interesting because it does switch into other modes, but we didn’t really use that in this one. But obviously, when he’s in space and things like that. So, it’s a cool bike. It’s challenging as shit to ride.<\/p>\n That’s what I wanted to ask you. What was it like for you in the full costume and everything, when you’re actually sitting on the bike, and at what point were you like, “Get the fuck out of here. I’m on set as Lobo. I’m on the bike. This is what I’ve dreamt about for forever?” What is that like for you?<\/p>\n MOMOA: It\u2019s as big as it gets, man. I had the time of my life. My scene, the absolute first scene, is a shot of me riding the motorcycle in, and it’s a really, really challenging shot because you’ve gotta gas it. You\u2019ve gotta go full throttle. You hit a mark, and the explosion is going to go off if anything messes up. I got a wig on, fire is coming at me, and you’re on gravel, and a crane\u2019s coming at you. Obviously, I don’t want to just stop and do something. I want it to be cool. So you\u2019ve got to really gas it. You\u2019ve got to pass your mark where you’re supposed to stop, and you\u2019ve got to just rip it and slide into it. We slid into it and pulled the cigar, and it’s perfect. I was like, \u201cThat\u2019s why. That’s why I’m playing Lobo.\u201d<\/p>\n I know you love music. If Lobo had a playlist in space to listen to as he’s cruising about, what’s on that playlist?<\/p>\n MOMOA: \u201cBig Take Over\u201d kicking it off, with Bad Brains. I mean, anything Mot\u00f6rhead, but let’s just say \u201cAce of Spades,\u201d and then \u201cMotorbreath,\u201d Metallica, Pantera. Metal.<\/p>\n There’s already a Lobo popcorn bucket. Is Lobo the kind of guy who would respect that, destroy that, or demand royalties?<\/p>\n MOMOA: Oh, man, he\u2019d definitely demand royalties, but he\u2019d break that shit too.
