Having spent three decades as a travel reporter<\/a>, Catriona Rowntree<\/a> has revealed the one thing she refuses to fly without.<\/p>\n

The Getaway<\/a> host shared a new Instagram video<\/a> giving fans a rare peek inside her carry-on, including the budget-friendly<\/a> item she swears by \u2013 and first discovered when starting out on TV.<\/p>\n

Catriona Rowntree shares her carry-on must-haves after 30 years of travelling the world. “Thank me later,” she says.\u00a0Instagram\/@catrionarowntree<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t do jet lag,\u201d the veteran reporter began. \u201cBut I do take a few things on board for a long haul flight, that don\u2019t cost much, avoid frustration and can be bought universally.\u201d <\/p>\n

One of those things are antibacterial hand wipes, which retail at major Australian supermarkets for $7. <\/p>\n

\u201cTrust me,\u201d said Catriona<\/a> as she pulled a packet of wet wipes out of her bag mid-flight. <\/p>\n

\u201cA stylist gave me these when I first started in TV<\/a> to take out clothing stains<\/a>, you may like to disinfect your seat and apparently they\u2019re pretty good for wiping your hands. I\u2019m never without these!\u201d<\/p>\n

The video, filmed during her latest long-haul flight, includes other tried-and-tested packing essentials including electrolytes, which according to Catriona, can help fight jet-lag. <\/p>\n

\u201cPop one in your water the day before you fly, on board, maybe one post-trip,\u201d she suggested. \u201cThese do seem to help me avoid jet lag<\/a>. If you\u2019re like me and have to work as soon as you land, it\u2019s worth a whirl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Your skin needs hydration too, said Catriona, especially on a long-haul flight. Which is why she recommends packing a hydration spray. <\/p>\n

Catriona Rowntree is glowing and hydrated. \u00a0Nine<\/p>\n

\u201cSome kind of moisture spray,\u201d she explained. \u201cDon\u2019t worry about the brand \u2013 make your own water spritzer, but it does help to give your skin a drink during and post-flight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other things you can \u201cBYO\u201d include your own pen. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou can never find a pen when they hand out those immigration cards, or when a bright idea sparks (hello John Lennon and Jane Birkin),\u201d Catriona pointed out. \u201cHosties [travel hosts] loathe lending them, so BYO.\u201d<\/p>\n

When you’ve travelled the globe as much as Catriona, you pick up a few tips along the way. \u00a0Nine<\/p>\n

She also revealed a nail file is one of her non-negotiables as she explained: \u201c[There\u2019s] nothing more annoying than a scratchy nail on a 14 hour flight\u201d. <\/p>\n

And, when it comes to protecting your passport, the Getaway host revealed the one thing you should absolutely invest in<\/a> \u2013 a passport cover. <\/p>\n

\u201c[But] never in black, you want to see it when it drops to the bottom of your bag,\u201d she advised. <\/p>\n

They make great gifts too, \u201cas someone who had their passport confiscated at an airport for a tiny bit of wear\u201d she admitted. <\/p>\n
