Those of us who saw Mona Fastvold\u2019s fabulous The Testament of Ann Lee<\/a> came away with the same idea: Amanda Seyfried needs to keep doing movie musicals. Lin-Manuel Miranda got the memo<\/a>, but the universe is still on notice. Seyfried revealed to GQ that she was cast as Joni Mitchell in a biopic<\/a> that is no longer happening. \u201cIt was a movie about her and [manager] Elliot Roberts,\u201d she said. \u201cThen he died \u2014 but not before I met him.\u201d During preparation, Seyfried even met Mitchell for a steak dinner, and the two listened to Blue together. \u201cShe\u2019s like, \u2018We\u2019ll put on the album and light a fire,\u2019\u201d Seyfried recalled. \u201cAfter we listened to the album, she\u2019s like, \u2018It\u2019s sparse, isn\u2019t it?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n In order to get ready for the part, Seyfried even learned how to play the entirety of Blue. \u201cThe day that I finished learning the last song on the album, \u2018[The Last Time I Saw] Richard\u2019, I fucking wept,\u201d Seyfried said. \u201cI felt like a bona fide musician, like I belong here. I felt like I had put my own flag on the top of the mountain. Because it was a fucking mountain, I tell you.\u201d That led to her beloved appearance on The Tonight Show, where she played \u201cCalifornia\u201d<\/a> on the dulcimer for Jimmy Fallon. She sounded beautiful and movie ready.<\/p>\n Now, Almost Famous filmmaker Cameron Crowe is reportedly directing an entirely separate Mitchell biopic starring<\/a> Seyfried\u2019s Mamma Mia! mama, Meryl Streep. \u201cApparently a lot of people reached out to Cameron Crowe and were like, \u2018What the fuck are you doing, dude?\u2019\u201d Seyfried said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what he said, but from my knowledge, his version is, she\u2019s really young and then she\u2019s older.\u201d Crowe should do the right thing: Cast Seyfried as the 16-year-old Mitchell.
