The chief executive of the lessor\u2019s parent company, Tramco, told the Herald their tenant was signed under a different name and had never sought approval to repaint their facade or transfer the lease to a new business.<\/p>\n

The space previously housed Vietnamese milk tea and coffee Teadee, which announced its closure on May 18.<\/p>\n

On social media, Ph\u1edf Y\u1ebfn\u2019s operators claimed they were being asked to return the facade to Teadee\u2019s original split storefront colour.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the hard part \u2026 The yellow colour is part of our brand. It\u2019s how we welcome you and warm you up, with our signature bowl of beef ph\u1edf.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post said they had tried to find a solution to the issue, but they haven\u2019t felt wanted in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest, we don\u2019t feel very welcomed to serve our ph\u1edf on the corner of Newmarket<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have tried offering several alternative options, but the only solution allowed is a half-white, half-yellow storefront.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, Newmarket, we may not be coming after all.\u201d<\/p>\n

The restaurant operators said they wanted to be consistent and remain true to their brand vision<\/a>, rather than change because someone doesn\u2019t like something, and they would keep customers updated on the landlord\u2019s final decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you so much to everyone who has stopped by, asked about us, and patiently waited for us to open in Newmarket.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe truly appreciate all your support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenters on the post were mostly supportive of the operators\u2019 decision to try to keep their yellow branding, arguing it wasn\u2019t too dissimilar to nearby stores like Chemist Warehouse and yet-to-open Toyworld.<\/p>\n

\u201cI admire your stance \u2013 do not compromise on your brand! You have an awesome product and following \u2013 as you expand maintaining your identity is critical,\u201d one commenter said, \u201cabsolutely love your work!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood on you,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever compromise your branding. Find a landlord who sees your vision,\u201d wrote a third.<\/p>\n

Kym Bunting, chief executive of Tramco\u2019s subsidiary Tram Lease Ltd, told the Herald the property investment company hadn\u2019t signed off on the paint job beforehand but was working through differences with the tenant.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fa\u00e7ade at 270 Broadway was changed to new branding of Ph\u1edf Y\u1ebfn, who is not our leaseholder, without obtaining prior approval from the lessor, Tram Lease Ltd (Tram), as required under the lease,\u201d Bunting said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTram has asked our tenant, Thao Vo, why this was changed and requested the facade be restored.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are continuing to meet with Thao Vo to discuss their request to change the facade and understand whether they intend to transfer the lease to a different entity, Ph\u1edf Y\u1ebfn.\u201d<\/p>\n
