<\/p>\nA man has been arrested nearly nine years after a woman was allegedly pushed into the path of an oncoming bus on a busy London bridge, in a case that attracted worldwide attention.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred on Putney Bridge in south-west London on May 5, 2017, when a jogger shoved a 33-year-old woman onto the road as he ran past her.<\/p>\n
She escaped serious injury after the bus driver swerved into an adjacent lane, narrowly avoiding her.<\/p>\n
CCTV footage and images of the suspect were released by police after the incident and gained worldwide attention, sparking a manhunt for the unidentified runner who became known as the Putney Pusher.<\/p>\n
Police interviewed around 50 men and arrested three people during the investigation, but no charges were laid. <\/p>\n
The case was closed in 2018 after detectives said all lines of inquiry had been exhausted.<\/p>\n

The UK Metropolitan Police said new information had now led to the arrest of a 44-year-old man on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm.<\/p>\n
“He was taken to police custody, where he remains,” a police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
“The arrest relates to an incident on 5 May 2017, where a woman was pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in Putney. Inquiries continue.”<\/p>\n
It was reported by UK media that the man arrested was allegedly a multi-millionaire banking executive and former Army captain.<\/p>\n
At the time of the incident, the woman was walking across the bridge at around 7.40am when the jogger, running in the opposite direction, pushed her into the path of an oncoming bus.<\/p>\n
About 15 minutes later, the runner reportedly crossed the bridge again and ignored the woman when she attempted to confront him.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the incident, bus driver Oliver Salbris said the outcome could have been catastrophic.<\/p>\n
“If I hadn\u2019t swerved, I would have smashed her head,” he told the Sunday Times.<\/p>\n
“It was reflex. The consequences would have been terrible for her \u2013 and for me.”<\/p>\n
