{"id":482070,"date":"2026-06-17T14:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T14:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/482070\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T14:52:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T14:52:08","slug":"how-toy-story-changed-pixar-and-animation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/482070\/","title":{"rendered":"How Toy Story Changed Pixar \u2014 and Animation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.disneyplus.com\/browse\/entity-f6174ebf-cb92-453c-a52b-62bb3576e402\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toy Story<\/a> opened in theaters on Nov. 22, 1995, it not only introduced audiences to iconic characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear, it also reshaped the future of animation.<\/p>\n<p>As the first fully computer-animated feature film, Toy Story marked a turning point in moviemaking \u2013pairing emerging technologies with character-driven storytelling to push creative boundaries to infinity and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>That breakthrough did not happen overnight.<\/p>\n<p>Toy Story was the culmination of years of experimentation and creative trust between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pixar.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pixar Animation Studios<\/a> and Disney<\/p>\n<p>Pixar\u2019s Origins in Technology \u2014 and an Early Disney Connection<\/p>\n<p>Pixar\u2019s story begins in 1979, when Ed Catmull was recruited to lead Lucasfilm\u2019s Computer Division \u2014 a group tasked with imagining a digital future for filmmaking. The group focused on tools that did not yet exist, including digital sound and computer graphics.<\/p>\n<p>By the mid-1980s, the group\u2019s animation team had begun producing original short films that showed how computer graphics could support character, humor, and emotion.<\/p>\n<p>In 1984, animator John Lasseter is hired full-time and a partially completed version of The Adventures of Andr\u00e9 &amp; Wally B. premieres at SIGGRAPH, an annual conference focused on computer graphics and interactive techniques that brings together researchers, artists, and technologists from around the world.
