“It was f****** tough. And it brought us to a place of like, okay, this is done. We’re going to end this.”

Despite this, Wilde found it tough to go through such a public breakup.

The movie star – who subsequently dated pop singer Harry Styles – explained: “I remember, it was Thanksgiving and we were separated and I was with the kids because it was my time to be with the kids.

“Everything was as it should be. Kids were with me. Jason was photographed with his girlfriend on the beach in Costa Rica and the press were like, ‘Yay for him, he looks so happy. So wonderful.’”

Wilde previously admitted that she’s struggled to cope with the focus on her personal life.

The actor-turned-director explained that it was tough for her to navigate her breakup and then deal with the extra attention that came her way for dating Styles.

She told Variety: “The last two years, my family has gone through this kind of restructuring and a revolution that should be a totally personal experience. And it’s not. The most painful element of it has been women shaming me for making a decision that was for my own health and happiness.”
