{"id":48533,"date":"2025-09-28T16:12:19","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T16:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/48533\/"},"modified":"2025-09-28T16:12:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T16:12:19","slug":"sunlive-matata-fatal-road-incident-sh2-reopens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/48533\/","title":{"rendered":"SunLive &#8211; Matat\u0101 fatal road incident: SH2 reopens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State Highway 2 in the Bay of Plenty has reopened after a fatal road incident on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The New Zealand Transport Agency said the road reopened between Manawahe and Caverhill Rds at 6.40am today.<\/p>\n<p>A person died and another was injured in the incident which happened around 3.50pm yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services were called to the intersection of Flax and Matat\u0101 Rds, near Matat\u0101, after a report of two people having been \u201cinjured by a third person while in a vehicle\u201d, a police spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>RNZ reported the two people had been stabbed.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle then left the road and crashed, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services carried out CPR on one of the victims but they died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The second victim was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/280925SLSPMatataCrash.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Road closure near Matat\u0101 after a serious incident. Photo \/ Google Maps<\/p>\n<p>The alleged offender was arrested at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA scene examination is now under way and the road is expected to remain closed for some time,\u201d police said last night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiversions are in place, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hato Hone St John said they took one patient to Whakat\u0101ne Hospital in a moderate condition and referred further inquiries to police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"State Highway 2 in the Bay of Plenty has reopened after a fatal road incident on Saturday.
