The staff of the Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories<\/a> television anime announced on Friday that the anime is getting a 17th season that will air on the TV Tokyo<\/a> channel starting on July 12. The theme for this season is “decision.”<\/p>\n

Cast members in the new season include: Kanji Tsuda<\/a>, Tomoko \u014cishi<\/a>, Satoko Tsuchiya<\/a>, Ry\u014d Shinoda<\/a>, Ray Shirakawa, Toshimasa Niiro<\/a>, Miu Miyake<\/a>, Akari Nakamura<\/a>, Ann Yamane<\/a>, Rina Gor\u014dmaru<\/a>, S\u014dsuke Hanatani<\/a>, Takuya (from Fuurin), and Shoji (from Fuurin).<\/p>\n

Akira Funada<\/a> is returning from the last six seasons to direct and produce the anime at ILCA<\/a> with production cooperation by ILCASHIPS<\/a> and LEON STUDIO<\/a>. Additional producers include Takuya Iwasaki<\/a> and Norio Yamakawa<\/a>. Scriptwriters include Hiromu Kumamoto<\/a>, Mitsuhiro Sasaki<\/a>, and Kanako Ishigami<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Animators include: Kazuma Taketani<\/a>, jimmy<\/a>, OHAGI<\/a>, Y\u016b Ebihara<\/a>, Momoka Higurashi<\/a>, “nishiyama&rie<\/a>,” Takashi Iitsuka<\/a>, Oroka Ohno, and Norio Yamakawa. Storyboarders include: Sh\u014dma Mut\u014d<\/a>, Ch\u014dji Yoshikawa<\/a>, and Kazuma Taketani.<\/p>\n

Fuurin performs the ending theme song “Yamishibai no Blues.”<\/p>\n

The original Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories series of anime shorts featured six-minute horror stories based on urban legends in a modern day setting. The shorts draw inspiration from Sh\u014dwa-era illustrated paper theater (kamishibai) productions. <\/p>\n

The anime’s first season premiered in July 2013, and the 16th and most recent season debuted<\/a> on January 11.<\/p>\n

The project inspired<\/a> a spinoff, The World Yamizukan<\/a>, in spring 2017. Crunchyroll<\/a> streamed the previous seasons and The World Yamizukan as they aired. The anime also inspired<\/a> the Ninja Collection<\/a> spinoff anime. The anime premiered in July 2020. Crunchyroll streamed<\/a> the anime as it aired in Japan.<\/p>\n

A live-action series adaptation<\/a> of the anime premiered in Japan in September 2020. Crunchyroll streamed<\/a> the series. <\/p>\n
